It's been quite a year for Hubble! New galaxies, colliding stars and more... Check out the magnificent views through NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, released in 2008.
Above, Hubble discovers carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of a planet orbiting another star, an important step along the trail of finding the chemical biotracers of extraterrestrial life as we know it. The Jupiter-sized planet, called HD 189733b, is too hot for life. But the Hubble observations are a proof-of-concept demonstration that the basic chemistry for life can be measured on planets orbiting other stars. Organic compounds can also be a by-product of life processes, and their detection on an Earth-like planet may someday provide the first evidence of life beyond Earth. Credits: NASA, ESA, and M. OUTSTANDING!
Hubble ping
no hot links?
What source would that be? The telescope?
Photoshop can be stunning.
Do you have a link?
Can you post the link please-would like to see the others!
What source?
That isn’t a real photo; it’s an “artist’s rendering”.
You’re killin’ me man.
“Photoshop can be stunning.”
Exactly. Bingo. All that comes back from Hubble is data. 0s and 1s. The artists at NASA assign lots of pretty colors that have little to do with what out there to data patterns.
Glad to see we get pleasing colors for our millions of $$$.
No story at the source.
Truly outstanding, that a faraway star and planet can be photographed in such high detail, and with a rim of atmosphere surrounding it. Is this what we’re seeing in the OP photo?
Extraterrestrial life as we know it? How long have we had this knowledge, and why wasn’t I informed? Art Bell, call your office.
.
“Glad to see we get pleasing colors for our millions of $$$.”
So do they also make up evewything other than the colors?
self ping to wonder in amazement later.
