Thanks for the ping to one of my favorite intellectuals, the one with the most common sense.

"... automakers are not heading for Detroit, even though there are lots of experienced automobile workers there. They are avoiding the rust belts and the policies that have made those places rust belts." And the union rank and file have consistently voted the socialist democrats into power so they have gotten precisely what they deserve, obsolescence. And they never seem capable of seeing the results of thier own idiocy, they just drone what their masters in teh DNC speak to them, it's someone else's fault, never the DNC societal engineering suicide.

Our Thomas Sowell Hits it Right Out of the Park: Detroit and Michigan have followed classic liberal policies of treating businesses as prey, rather than as assets. They have helped kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. So have the unions. So have managements that have gone along to get along.

You stated it well as did Dr. Sowell in saying the unions have helped kill the goose that lays the golden eggs and management have gone along to get along.

He most always nails it. I was hoping he’d write a column on this and am not disappointed, as usual.

People never learn from their mistakes if they are bailed out every time they screw up.

Just save me one more time and I promise I will never fail again.

Yeah sure.

Part of this inability to face reality is the idea that everything is negotiable....and winning these legalistic battles is where the gains are made, not through hard work.

I think it was satirized best in Clueless...

Mel (father): You mean to tell me that you argued your way from a C+ to an A-?

Cher (daughter): Totally based on my powers of persuasion, you proud?

Mel: Honey, I couldn't be happier than if they were based on real grades.

(Of course, that last line is idiomatic, so it doesn't come across well in print...it's better as an audio clip.)

So true...I don’t know why so many have gotten to the point they think everything is negotiable. There are many things that are right or wrong without gray areas. That last line is a good one.
