Gingrich: RNC Ad is 'Destructive Distraction'
Atlantic Magazine ^ | 16 Dec 2008 02:07 pm | Marc Ambinder

Posted on 12/16/2008 4:15:40 PM PST by lewisglad

Dear Chairman Duncan,

I was saddened to learn that at a time of national trial, when a president-elect is preparing to take office in the midst of the worst financial crisis in over seventy years, that the Republican National Committee is engaged in the sort of negative, attack politics that the voters rejected in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.

The recent web advertisement, "Questions Remain," is a destructive distraction. Clearly, we should insist that all taped communications regarding the Senate seat should be made public. However, that should be a matter of public policy, not an excuse for political attack.

In a time when America is facing real challenges, Republicans should be working to help the incoming President succeed in meeting them, regardless of his Party.

From now until the inaugural, Republicans should be offering to help the President-elect prepare to take office.

Furthermore, once President Obama takes office, Republicans should be eager to work with him when he is right, and, when he is wrong, offer a better solution, instead of just opposing him.

This is the only way the Republican Party will become known as the "better solutions" party, not just an opposition party. And this is the only way Republicans will ever regain the trust of the voters to return to the majority.

This ad is a terrible signal to be sending about both the goals of the Republican Party in the midst of the nation's troubled economic times and about whether we have actually learned anything from the defeats of 2006 and 2008.

The RNC should pull the ad down immediately.

Sincerely,

Newt Gingrich

Chairman, American Solutions

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives

Newt still doesn’t understand why the republicans are losing. He is right about one thing though...the party has lost confidence with (conservative) voters...and it looks as though Newt desires for this trend to continue.

“Questions Remain” is a well done exploratory vid. Newt can go pound sand.

Newt's just trying to be "non-partisan", loved by everyone, and the next maverick, sorta like, McCain.

Exactly the type of loser republican politician the we don't need going forward.

Warren penned “The Hockey Song.” Hit someone! That should be what we do to the dark side.

Think about the song....Buddy was told "Hit Somebody!" over and over but what Buddy really wanted to do was to score a goal. That's me; I don't want to hit somebody; I want to score. I love playing offense.

0bama will dig his own grave.

That is a dangerous assumption.

Like Lenin, he may never see a grave. The toadies of the Left will keep him propped up indefinitely no matter how much destruction he brings down upon the innocent American people.

Perhaps we should all stop trying to unseat Obama for the time being, and go after RINOs first.

Newt. What happened to you?

Why did you quit?

This mess all started when Newt quit. It’s been downhill from that day.

Quitters are in no position to lecture others.

Newt please stop talking, if you’re not going to help.

It also gave us Bush I and Bush II.

Oh yeah, that worked out well. Aside from a fantastic response and reaction to 9-11, I find nothing to celebrate. Not that I would have wanted the Democrat opponents in office, but we could have had far better candidates of our own.

As a conservative Columbus Blue Jackets season ticket holder, I want to see both!

I think you are very wrong here. When McCain was regurgitating commie ideas Newt organized the Drill Here, Drill Now effort. That was an idea well received by the majority of Americans but then the "credit crisis" hit and threw the attention on the bail-out while oil prices suddenly plummeted. Newt consistently has conservative solutions to problems people care about.

Thanks, Zev.
Couldn’t agree more with your last sentence.

I will agree that he is more conservative than McCain; almost any republican would be more conservative than McCain.

But, "drill here, drill now"? That is an issue which most Americans agreed with and just about every republican. It's very easy to jump on the bandwagon, and if you're nationally recognized, like Newt, then he obviously will get more recognition and more credit than others who were in support of the idea from the beginning. like most FReepers.

He was very good at one time, back in the 90s, and now, he's not close to what he used to be. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't support him if he were to, say, run for president. But, that support would be only after he wins the primaries. You know, the same way that republicans were stuck with McCain in the general election?

Fitzgerald has said repeatedly that no one in the Obama camp is a target.

Could you (or anybody) please provide links to quotes where Fitzgerald says "repeatedly that no one in the Obama camp is a target" ?

I keep hearing Dem shills like Alan Colmes saying that. Often the shills go even further and claim that Fitzgerald has "completely cleared Obama and his staff."

But afaik, Fitzgerald has done no such thing. The only mention Fitzgerald has made of Obama in this matter is
(1) there are no allegations against Obama in this complaint, and
(2) that beyond that, he, Fitzgerald, would have no comment "at this time."

Also, remember that Karl Rove was told repeatedly that he was "not a target" in Fitz's Plame investigation. Yet Rove sat in the prosecutorial hot seat for, what, almost two years? And we were led to believe that not-a-target Rove got off by the skin of his teeth.

Newt. Newt. Newt. Read Jack Cashill's "Hoodwinked," you might learn something! Next thing you know, you will be buying carbon credits at Paulson and Gore's global carbon credit bank.

The issue being ignored is that the most absurd candidate to ever front for the powers that be, got put into office by massive voter fraud. Is the right party comfortable with that? Now we get the equally absurd candidate Al Franken stealing Minn. and you sit in your ivory tower, while the regular folks bend over and assume the position.

You got yours, now sit down and shut up!

We may never have never taken bake the house back without you Newt. You were brilliant. A hero.

But then you failed while in power.

And now you seem to be an idiot. Shut up so I can remember the good Newt and don’t start to hate you.
