Since war became a geographically distant but very real way of life after Sept. 11, 2001, no Hollywood star has stepped up to support active duty U.S. military personnel and wounded veterans like Gary Sinise. There is no close second. And quietly, as is in his nature, he is becoming something akin to this generation´s Bob Hope.
One step in conferring this worthy title on the award-winning actor, director and producer occurred last week when President Bush bestowed on him the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second highest civilian honor awarded to citizens for exemplary deeds performed in service of the nation. Previous recipients include Henry "Hank" Aaron, Muhammad Ali, Colin L. Powell and Bob Dole.

In 2004, "Seabiscuit" author Laura Hillenbrand with Mr. Sinise founded Operation Iraqi Children, a nonprofit group dedicated to helping the U.S. military distribute school supplies in the war-stricken country.

Lt. Dan Rocks!!
Thank you Mr. Sinise!
Breitbart is subbing for Rusty Humphries tonight and spent a good deal talking about him. (Also had FReeper Machosauce as a guest for several segments.)
I thought his best performance on screen was a relatively minor one -- as astronaut Ken Mattingly in Apollo 13.
I’m glad Gary Sinise has been recognized for all he does for our troops. This guy is awesome in my book. And yes, I’m still PO’d that he didn’t get the Oscar for his portrayal of Lt. Dan. Hollyweirdos wouldn’t know a great acting performance if it bit them on the ass.
Gary has done a commerical for the VA for the VA suicide Prevention Program.
It is a touching outreach to veterans encouraging them to call the VA national toll free number...for the VA Suicide Hotline.... if they are depressed and need mental health services.
“
I’d consider an award of the Presidential Citizens Medal a big deal,
but the whole weekend went by and I didn’t hear a peep about
this story in the MSM.
“
I’d say the same thing.
But a few outlets did actually report on the medal ceremony.

Of course, medals handing out by a Republican President...
that’s not worthy news for plenty of the MSM.
Sinise appears to be a low-key guy that wouldn’t blow his horn
about getting this honor.
That’s awesome. Thanx for posting this. That man is now tops in my book.
Thankfully some one is recognizing his efforts.
>> I didn’t hear a peep about this story in the MSM.
Clearly, this man has soul, but not the sole the media cares about.
I love Gary Sinise! Before my husband deployed, I told him if he ever had the chance to meet him over there to get his photo and an autograph. I love his version of Mice and Men and and love that he supports the troops the way he does.
That's where I heard about it. :-)
The world needs another Bob Hope.
Mission to Mars was an awesome movie as well. Unfortunately, Sinise’s character had to tolerate Tim Robbins but his character was killed so it’s all good.
It is a big deal. Sinise rocks. It’s a shame that so many in Hollywood are such jerks. My DH’s uncle was an actor who served in WWII. He went to Parris Island with us to watch his Nephew graduate from boot camp. I thought that he was going to bust buttons off of his shirt he was so proud. I wish there were more in Hollywood who had such pride in our country.
Perhaps this part of the article explains the media silence:
"Mr. Sinise not only 'supports the troops,' but he champions their mission as well."
Sir, yes sir!
Are you questioning their patriotism?
This is how the left shows support of the troops!
By completely ignoring them.
And Gary.
Us right wingers aren’t nuanced enough or something.
I guess.
