My Review of Vince Flynn's, "Extreme Measures"
Amazon.com Review ^ | 14 Dec 2008 | Jeff Head

Posted on 12/14/2008 7:00:27 AM PST by Jeff Head

I have read all of Flynn's works. I have liked every one of them and not been disappointed.

This book was no different, though it was less a front to back barnstormer about his principle character and action hero, Mitch Rapp, than others have been.

But that's okay, I believe Flynn did that on purpose to make some other points, and the book is nonetheless a great read, delivering a timely and critical message I believe is important for all Americans to understand.

It was, for me, still a captivating thriller with enough action, and delivering a very important message for our society which I believe was the thrust of Flynn's effort here...as well as showing some of the personal cost warriors such as Rapp and Nash pay in the clandestine services while defending our nation against its enemies.

All in all, I believe the novel is a very exciting one, mingling all of these goals together into one, and I give it five stars.

Importantly, I also believe it is an excellent expose about what manner of enemy we are fighting in the Islamic Jihadists, and what measures it takes to stop them...and an equally well done expose on how the political correctness of the day, and wrangling of our current politicians can not only impeded the effort, but invite the carnage to our shores.

I would recommend "Extreme Measures" for anyone wanting to see into the mind of the enemey, and for anyone wanting to see what manner of heroes we have fighting to stop that enemy against all odds, the largest of which that are stacked against them residing right here within our own borders and within the halls of our own political institutions.

And, ominously, Karim knows Nash’s identity!

Vince Flynn is from my neighborhood and is a staunch conservative.

Thanks for the review. I’ve heard of Flynn or seen him on FNC but I’ve never read his books. Do you recommend starting with his first novel or can I jump in with this latest effort?

I know...let’s hope Nash and his beautiful family survive in the series. We may next see Flynn’s version of Patriot GAmes.

Now that you’ve called his name to my attention ( slaps head, to jar brain back in to gear... ) I’ll keep an eye peeled for his books.

You can jump in here with the latest and then go back if you want. I'd read them all...in whatever order. All are good.

This one had a little more political intrigue and dealt with Nash's personal issues than the others which are even more action based.

But this one is a GREAT read and very timely and has plenty of action, believe me.

You’d love Term Limits.

Just finished a good one, "TSAR," by Ted Bell. Alex Hawke has a romantic encounter. Bad guy(s) are the Russians trying to regain power. Lot's of action.

I have read them all and I think it makes sense to start at the beginning and read through. Although not necessary, there is a continuing story line that makes it much more pleasurable to know what has happened previously.

Just my opinion.

If you are going to get them all...then read them from the start.

Term Limits sold my on Flynn right after it came out and I read it cover to cover. Been reading each of his ever since.

Merry Christmas!

Like, Jeff, I’ve read all of Flynn’s books. I’m a sixty-five year old woman, and I love them.

I’m still on the County library waiting list for this one-these rarely take me more then two days to finish off.

I also highly recommend Daniel Silva’s novels. His Israeli spy, Gabriel Allon, should have already become a Hollywood staple. Hollywood being Hollywood, however, I think it will be some time before you see either Flynn’s of Silva’s novels adopted for the big screen because both would offend those of a particular religious persuasion.

I anyone needs to buy a number of books in a series, I strongly suggest going to Alibris.com, which is where I buy so many of my books. I believe it is the largest used book store on the web.
