WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) - A bomb exploded inside a bank here late Friday afternoon after explosives experts arrived to check on a suspicious object and authorities said at least one person was killed by the blast.
Oregon State Police said the explosion at the West Coast Bank caused "serious injuries" and that police officers were in the area when the device detonated. They did not say how many police officers were injured.
A spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told The Oregonian at least one bomb technician had been injured.
Marion County deputy medical examiner Rodge Womack said he has been told of at least one fatality. He said he did not know the identity of the victim.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Law enforcement agencies have descended on Woodburn, Oregon, where an explosion ripped through a bank today seriously injuring three police officers. A bank employee received injuries that are described as minor.
Marion County Sheriff Russ Isham says this morning at approximately 10:32 AM, a Woodburn-area Wells Fargo Bank received a threatening phone call from an unknown person.
“Bank personnel notified Woodburn Police Department and the bank was evacuated while police investigated with the assistance of the FBI and an Oregon State Police bomb technician,” Isham said.
During the day the investigation led to the West Coast Bank on Highway 214 just east of Interstate 5. Isham says the day took an unexpected, tragic turn shortly before 5:30 PM.
“While investigators were in the area, a suspicious device detonated at approximately 5:24 PM. Two Woodburn police officers and an Oregon State Police bomb technician received serious injuries and a bank employee received minor injuries.” The officer’s names and the bank employee’s name are not being released at this time.”
Sounds like the victim is probably someone on the bomb squad.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The bomb was originally found in some bushes outside the West Coast Bank. Their CEO says authorities called to the scene took the device inside the bank, apparently scanned it and the bomb went off.
The bank’s CEO says another bank nearby got a call about “a potential bomb threat” first, but a police search turned up nothing. He says later someone called West Coast and warned employees to look around there too.”
