HUNTINGTON WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) - A retired General Motors engineer is taking aim at one of the auto aid package's biggest critics with his new website.

SEE THE ACTION NEWS REPORT IN THE VIDEO PLAYER ON THE RIGHT

Joe Babiasz says he's launched BoycottAlabamaNow.com to show Republican Senator Richard Shelby what's it's like "to turn your back on hardworking Americans." Shelby has been one of the biggest critics of both the aid package and Detroit's automakers.

The website includes contact information for Shelby, and a page that takes on some of the things Shelby has said about the Big 3.

Babiasz says his message to Shelby is "if you're not going to support America, we're not going to support Alabama."

"I hope he stays up north so he doesnt pollute the white sands of the Alabama beaches."

That's funny. My wife is from the Florida Panhandle, and I'm always telling her that it's really just "Southern Alabama"...and Florida just stole their beaches.

Yes we gave them tax breaks to come here to the great state of Alabama. Someone has to explain to me why these are breaks in the first place though. They should have been able to come here and set up their business without the harrassment of overburdening taxes in the first place. Not some state Government saying “Ok we will give you a break on these taxes.” These three car companies have been a boom to the Alabama economy. Without Union thugs or overreaching Government regulations and taxes. Yes the pay is less than in MI. but there are no Union dues and the cost of living is a hell of a lot cheaper down here.

It’s your right as an American to buy what you want. If GM made better cars than say Honda, then I would expect their sales to exceed Hondas. But how can a citizen, average American, who makes say $20.00/hour afford a car made by someone making $75.00 per hour? What are the legacy costs you refer to? Capitalism should allow a non-profitable company to go under. The Big 3 make profits in other companies like Brazil. That’s because there are no unions in Brazil, and probably no EPA creating unreachable cafe standards. I don’t want a depression, but I don’t want my grand children paying for fat cats in Detroit to fly around in private jets either.

Car thieves must also steal their gasoline, because 9 of the top 10 vehicles are some of the largest cars and trucks on the market, including #1, the big daddy Cadillac Escalade ESV.

Except for the one, they’re all American, too. Go, USA!

(edit)

Rounding out the top five are the Ford F-250 pickup, standard Cadillac Escalade, Dodge Charger and the Ford F-350.

Least stolen? It’s a three-way tie between the Mercedes-Benz E Class 4WD, Buick Ranier, and Subaru Forester. Only .6 of each were stolen per 1,000 insured

I heard that GM pays people not to work. I don’t understand that principle, but if that’s the way the Big 3 work, then they ought to go under.

They sell a lot of Chevys but they have too many lines. In the reorg they will drop 3 lines. And if you read the article line workers do not make $75.00 per hour. Factored into that is their retirment health care both while working, taxes paid, and a bunch of other stuff. You can read about it at Hearitage .Org. The average guy makes about 60K

Legacy costs are the health care and retirement benifits of all the retired workers for the last 50 years.

I am just saying that it will be a pyrimid effect. if GM and Chrysler go under so will supplier big and small and everyone who services those suppliers and all those auto workers. It will in my opninion cause a depression. We are talking about 3 million people here.

It’s part of their union contract.

They have to pay people even if there aren’t jobs for them,

and even if there are jobs (in another city), but the goonion member doesn’t want to move.

Come on down friend. There are many great places to live. VERY low property taxes. A state income tax that is not too bad. Two republican senators, a republican governor, and my congressman is a republican also. There are a lot of rural areas or even city places too live that are nice and safe. We have a carry permit that can be obtain fairly quickly after the back ground check. The Gulf is not too far away. You can hunt, fish, camp, boat, go to college football games all over the state; pro sports in Atlanta. Florida next door. Plenty of places to live. Lots of houses on the market around here. Come on down.

Pssst! Alabama is one of the South's best kept secrets!
If you love Freedom, guns, hunting, fishing, hiking, beautiful scenery and beautiful women then come on down. BUT if you believe in UNIONS, high taxes, or BIG GOVT. then just stay there.

I live near Detroit - and I’m considering packing up and moving to Alabama! Anyplace but MI or NY!

Best places in Alabama imo (I grew up there)

1) Auburn. Rural, near a college town, Lake Eufala close by
2) Guntersville. lots of retirees already. Lake Guntersville a fabulous lake. Mountains die into the lake. Spectacular beauty and the best schools and civic scene you could hope for in a small town
3) Gulf Shores — actually Foley, Bay Minette (I think the paper mill closed, so it doesn’t stink any more), Daphne or Fairhope are close by towns with great access to the beach. Gulf shores ain’t what it used to be.
4) Huntsville. Used to be more PhD’s per capita than just about anywhere...., but these are HARD SCIENCE PhD’s and not social science folks. Work at the Redstone Arsenal is all military subcontractors and army folks. A truckload of engineers. UAH is consistently one of the best “bang for the buck” schools you can find.

Some folks like the south side of Birmingham (over the mountain). I don’t. Just burbville.

Well, just because this jerk said I should boycott Alabama, I'm going to rent a big RV, load it up with seven of my friends and drive to Birmingham December 27-30!!

The fact that Rutgers will be in a bowl game against NC State during this time was also a minor factor in my decision to do this.

Boycott shmoicott - Go RU!

Hey dead, if you’re going to B’ham (Legion Field) be careful. Lots of murders up there due to an over abundance of “Democrats”. Make sure you try Dreamland Bar-B-Que.

Yeah, I hear it's a real dump in the middle of slum. That's what we get for starting the season 1-5. Believe it or not, one touchdown against Cincinnati and we'd be in the Orange Bowl instead.

I'll be sure to try the BBQ though, as a consolation!
