BUTT SERIOUSLY: BAM ADMITS 'FALLING OFF WAGON' ON CIGS
New York Post ^ | December 8, 2008 | Chuck Bennett

Posted on 12/08/2008 8:43:31 PM PST by Eric Blair 2084

President-elect Barack Obama is no quitter. That is, he still sneaks a smoke from time to time, despite his pledge to conquer his nicotine addiction.

He admitted on NBC's "Meet The Press" yesterday to having "fallen off the wagon" - and left himself some wiggle room to take a puff after he moves into the White House next month.

Obama said he gave up the habit when he began his presidential run, but bummed the occasional cigarette on the campaign trail.

When asked by moderator Tom Brokaw whether he'd finally quit, Obama replied, "You know, I have, but what I said was that, you know, there are times when I've fallen off the wagon."

Brokaw countered, "Then that means you haven't stopped."

"Fair enough," Obama said. "What I would say is that I have done a terrific job under the circumstances of making myself much healthier and that I think you'll not see any violations of these rules in the White House."

The White House has been smoke-free since 1992, as per then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's edict, but President Bill Clinton was known to fire up a stogie or two on a balcony.

Obama could do a balcony scene of his own, but the American Lung Association hopes he will quit - and show that anyone can get addicted, so no one should ever start smoking.

Madame,

It is because it does not belong to you. You can smoke in your house or any private establishment (like a restaurant) where the owner sets the rules.

And just so that we are clear :) Let me state the obvious again:

1. I do NOT support sin taxes
2. Smoke like a bandit in ANY private establishment

**Why can’t one smoke outside in a public park?**

BEcause LIBERALS DON”T LIKE IT. As for Software on the BRAIN has just proven to me it is a LIBERAL and NOT WORTH MY TIME.

TOBACCO NAZI ... Period.

I wish there was a way I could personally ZOT these scumbags from my screens.

Mylife,

Regarding your employer, I am in a quandry.

As I said, I support Restaurant owners allowing their patrons to smoke. I do that on the basis that it is their private property

If I follow that logic then since your car is on your employers private property I guess he gets to set the rules.

My Building, My Restaurant, if my customers want to smoke ... it’s OUTSIDE... EFF THAT ... and OUTDOORS... you whine at me, you eat my fist.

My brothers own a bar in Louisville Kentucky where because of idiots like you they have to cater to non smokers and have lost money because of it. If they had their say so (which they dont) over their own business non smokers like you who dont like the smoking could hit the road.

You certainly have a right to your opinion :)

I loathe lots of things but wouldn’t dream of forcing my pet peeves on other people.

“You are not polluting anyone else’s air. But smoking in a public location that does NOT belong to you is NOT a right.”

Does that also pertain to car and other auto exhaust fumes? One of my very good friends thinks no one should pollute her air by driving cars or buses. She doesn’t drive. Never owned a car. It annoys her that she has to breathe the air polluted by cars and buses. I’m serious. How about allergies?

Personally, I just want to know where we draw the line. Where the damn line?

Ah! The post I was waiting for. When all else fails, let us call me a “Nazi” :)

This sounds like the beginning of a flame war. So,therefore, I declare surrender and quit.

Good night all and sweet dreams!

Why can't there be one place in my state where my husband can enjoy a cigar with his adult beverage with other like-minded adults?

Dr A would agree with you 100%. He says just quit if you want to stop.

I think that is the best way. I don't see a problem with using nicotine patches or gum though. You aren't introducing a new drug that way. But you do still have a nicotine addiction until you quit that and get some time behind you.

Hmm, you won’t allow the Pesident to smoke in the White House. That is just the beginning - what else won’t you let him do in the WH? Would you let him have an alcoholic drink (some people become drunk)? Could he remove his clothes in his bedroom in the WH (a naked body in the WH?) Why don’t you just take over the WH and lock the door to it, then no one would offend your sensibilities and you would have a perfect WH.

I actually am a mental health professional. Do you separate your socks according to color and make neat rows of them in a certain drawer? If you are married, do you insist your wife do that task and do you get upset if she fails to make those rows perfectly?

The people wanting these non-smoking laws have asked for this. I'm really surprised you don't understand.

Yes indeed, this shows us how low we have descended. You can be ineligible to run for President by not showing your BC but you can’t smoke because you will be impeached if you do. I can only hope someone will catch him smoking!

What you can’t Control by Ownership, Regulate .. what you can’t REgulate ... SILENCE .. this is the Core of Naziism.

What you’ve said about smokers fits the above Perfectly, so Nazi is a Perfect FIT.

Which makes you the ENEMY ... IMHO
