The Miami Herald and Chicago Tribune have practically announced bankruptcy and are both now valued at less than the value of the real estate they own (prime bay-front property in Miami and a skyscraper in Chicago).
Even better, McClatchy Newspapers itself, a newspaper chain with a documented anti-male bias, is saddled with so much debt that it will probably not last through 2009...
~~snip~~
A vestige of Andrew Martons article can be found at FreeRepublic.com where you can see that this once-conservative forum is now dominated by man-hating old women and FReepers discussing the story were no allowed to mention the word feminism in regard to the FReeper nmhs hate-filled diatribes against men who would date foreign women (I know first-hand that any such comments mentioning feminism were deleted).
Exhibit C: The forum FreeRepublic.com was once a place for conservative men to bash feminism freely and often. It was the favorite topic for years. But, since early 2006, most anti-feminist FReepers have had their accounts deleted so as not to antagonize the aging baby boomer females the crippled owner, Jim Robinson, wants to keep in the Republican Party. Jim Robinsons attitude seems to be just like that of Rupert Murdoch of Fox News he seems to think that strong feminist women should be the backbone of the Republican Party. This is insane. I do NOT think these men are motivated by the concept that 80% of corporate purchase decisions are made by women.
It is easy to logon as a member of the once-mighty conservative FreeRepublic.com. Try doing so and mentioning feminism in a comment somewhere. See how quickly you can be deleted.
Then watch how the readership of the blog has fallen considerably since they turned feminist.
Where was the monetary advantage for this conservative forum to go feminist?

Yeah, you know, I hadn't given much thought to that (never really do), the leftie save-the-environment carbon-offset crowd is run prominently by men. Hey, maybe Mr. Peterson can look into the misogynist haters over there.... But these enviro guys do please their feminazi friends, you don't hear algore and dicaprio mention the pollutants in our waters from the huge amounts of artificial hormones from contraceptives put into the water supplies and sewage systems everyday, feminizing our males at every level. Nope, strangely mum.
I got here late. Did Peterson get zotted for using the FR Ladies’ Room in drag?
REALLY???
I'm truly surprised.
I can see the desire for something like that, but have qualms. Jim has been very upfront about FR and its stance. And I'm on board all the way. But I question what this place would be like should everyone be in lock step.
There are times I get mad, frustrated and angry over some ridiculous post. But I also see (when I have more clarity) that such things are part of the spice of FR. And if I didn't have that thrown in I'd miss it. And I believe it's this realization that gives me qualms about such a thing.
Do we really want to begin 'categorizing' everybody? To me, the name FREE Republic itself has to be kept in mind when dealing with each other. We're here because we're free. We're here because we have the freedom of our expression. Here, as everywhere else, I do not want to see any of that freedom withheld or removed.
I like things as they are. We can all recognize the RINOs and CINOs, or at least should be able to. And learning to deal with them, I think, makes us bigger, better and stronger. Yet if one of them gets out-of-bounds, we always have Jim and the AdMods to step in and set them straight. Which brings up another thing that's fun to watch.
But I question what this place would be like should everyone be in lock step.
***There’s no attempt or need for a lock step. It would only be a way to see what a poster thinks on various topics. For instance, you and I on the AFIRE ping list sometimes end up in discussions with FReepers about immigration and I find myself going round & round with someone. When I dig deeper into it, I find RINOs. It’s okay that they’re RINOs. But they try to hide behind their pretense of conservatism in other areas, like cockroaches. And when the voting time comes, it appears that 20% of RINOs voted for Obama.

What do you think of an idealogical litmus matrix?

***It’s okay to let them self-categorize. Let them answer a list of questions, see where they stand. When we find ourselves debating some ridiculous point about immigration and check on someone’s answers to the litmus matrix, it won’t surprise us to find a RINO or a Ron Paul supporter. And it’s okay for them to be RINOs, they’re just outed and can’t pretend to be conservative. I stop listening to such FReepers once I’ve drilled down. It would save time.
As an old lady myself, I hate feminists and liberal men so I am not certain if can stay on FR or not. I have been under the impression that it was just the liberals that are trying to destroy America that are bashed on FR. Good thing some outsider has set us straight or we would have continued on our Conservative course of loving our nation and those who support the Constitution.
If they get all creeped out about that, then ask them why should they be upset by democracy?
***They do get all creeped out. And they jump up & down and slander us and insult us and some of them even go off and start things like wideawake.com. Once you’ve had this happen to you for the umpteenth time, you start looking for solutions to this problem. The time has come to flush out their hiding place.
LOL...great quote...:)
I hate radical feminists, too.
As for me? I’ve never let my gender get in the way of what I wanted to do with my life. And I didn’t use any ‘affirmative action’ to get things done, either. And I NEVER look down on a man if he can’t do something I can. I LOVE men. I LOVE the ‘yin and yang’ of us; males and females ARE different, designed to fit together for a reason and God Bless Us, both!
Jim Peterson (the AUTHOR of this tripe, not our Beloved Jim Robinson!) can bite me. If he’s man enough...
...I bite back, LOL!
Hey ~ I resemble that!
Finny's a good, good gal and an eloquent writer.
I agree with her that men's conversations are by and large less catty, less personal, and usually more interesting.
At Art Center in LA I gravitated toward the clusters of male conversations much more often, and that's where I found my husband. They said Art Center marriages had an 80%+ divorce rate but we've lasted 32 years so far, which I attribute to my husband's refusal to let me over-protect or (s)mother him.
Absolutely none! I exchanged smiles with quite a few, though. ;-)
Hmmn? I may be getting old....but I have never had a man hating problem.
America has gone insane.
Yeah, but she also said once she might be Ken Mehlman, so who's to know for sure?
Oh... wait a minute... ;-)
LOL! So true! I can't believe the garbage they publish.
And, for the record, I mean no disrespect to men in that statement, only the publication! ;-)
I still think she’s a he. Always did. He/she said once not to believe a THING anyone says.
I finally took that to mean he/she was unbelievable.
Awww... shucks. I'm soooooo disappointed! I guess I shouldn't have believed her.
ROFL!
Once a hack, always a hack.
My sentiments exactly.
