Wait a minute. The title says “Orders in Pending Cases” and says that Donofrio’s requested “stay” iss denied but did not appear to dismiss the case entirely. Why would it be under the “pending” section?
Not a constitutional expert, but could it be the stay was denied, but the issues in this case may be considered in light of others coming up to the court? The case is still listed under pending cases as you said.
I’m scratching my head over that too. Today’s order says “The application for stay ... is denied”, and is not listed under the Certiorari Denied section. Presumably that means that SCOTUS won’t hold up any pending actions on the NJ SoS’s part, but has not actually rejected the case. CBB, can you confirm/explain this?
I’m increasingly convinced that dang near nobody understands what is actually going on with this case, and that nearly everyone is talking about what they want to be but isn’t.
I have been looking at that also. I haven't seen an update to the actual docket entry either; I imagine that we will see more details soon.
I hope (but don't expect) that we will see an opinion posted in the opinions on orders section about this case.

DONOFRIO, LEO C. V. WELLS, NJ SEC. OF STATE The application for stay addressed to Justice Thomas and referred to the Court is denied.
But what do I know?
