It has remained one of World War IIs most enduring mysteries, one that resonated decades later in the aftermath of Sept. 11: Who in Washington knew what and when before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941?
Specifically, who heard or saw a transcript of a Tokyo shortwave radio news broadcast that was interrupted by a prearranged coded weather report? The weather bulletin signaled Japanese diplomats around the world to destroy confidential documents and codes because war with the United States, the Soviet Union or Britain was beginning.
In testimony for government inquiries, witnesses said that the winds execute message was intercepted as early as Dec. 4, three days before the attack.
But after analyzing American and foreign intelligence sources and decrypted cables, historians for the National Security Agency concluded in a documentary history released last week that whatever other warnings reached Washington about the attack, the winds execute message was not one of them.
A Japanese message intercepted and decoded on Nov. 19, 1941, at an American monitoring station on Bainbridge Island, Wash., appeared to lay out the winds execute situation. If diplomatic relations were in danger with one of three countries, a coded phrase would be repeated as a special weather bulletin twice in the middle and twice at the end of the daily Japanese-language news broadcast.

Roosevelt’s fault!!!
(Sorry, always wanted to say that, hehehe.)
I know he was not born yet but it was
Was Bainbridge Island really a part of America back then? Come on.
60 years from now, my grandkids will be reading about how 9-11 wasn’t an “inside job” pulled off by Bush and Cheney and that the whole conspiracy thing was just something about a bunch of potheads came up with in their spare time.
Is Bainbridge Island really a part of America today? Come on.
Well, even if Frankie The Limper did in fact know that PH was going to be attacked it’s a good thing he didn’t say anything. If the US Navy had manned up all those ships and steamed out to meet the Japanese they would have lost all those battleships and most of the crews permanently at the bottom of the Pacific rather then in 50 feet of water at PH. They would have been sitting ducks for Japanese Naval Air.
I remember hearing this book discussed on talk radio years ago, but I haven’t read it.

Prior to 9/11, many of us had a healthy sense of skepticism about government and its motivations. For a number of reasons, I expect that this skepticism will return soon.
Regardless, none of this takes away from the bravery, commitment and patriotism of our WWII troops.
LOL, Truther Word.
Of course this is true. The NY Slimes said it was./s
Never mind about the McCallum memo on how to force Japan into a war.
Never mind that there were four Magic machines in existence - Washington, McArthur’s HQ, OSS HQ in Honolulu and at the Presidio in SF. These were the top secret decoding machines. Note that CINCPAC and Army HQ did not have one.
Never mind that two separate reports, in 1934 and 1936, showed how Pearl Harbor could be attacked. The reports were written by two cousins - Gens. George S. Patton amd Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller.
Never mind that the battleships were moved to Hawaii over the objections of many admirals.
Never mind that Toosevelt had failed after nine years and billions wasted, to end the Great Depression.
After all, FDR was a Liberal; and they are all honorable men./s
I will always wonder if Stalin knew about the impending attack on Pearl Harbor. A Russian master spy, Richard Sorge, whose father was German, worked as a German journalist in Japan from 1933 to 1944 (when he was executed). It appears that he warned Stalin and others about the impending German invasion in June 1941. Tom Clancy and others have called him the greatest spy ever.
Could Pearl Harbor, like 9/11, have been an inside job? After all, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright once said that the government lied about Pearl Harbor.
There's no conceivable logical reason why Roosevelt would know, but not warn Pearl Harbor.
The Japanese had no plans to abort or turn around if Pearl Harbor was ready - in fact, they EXPECTED to have to fight their way in, and only HOPED for surprise.
You'd be far better served reading "At Dawn We Slept" by Prange rather than "Day of Deceit"
Never mind that NY slimes lied about holodomor - artificial famine in Ukraine and Durante got Pulitzer price for convincing lying, just like they lie now.
I doubt it. The Japanese were set up for an attack on PH, not a naval battle. BTW, how many of our carriers at sea did we lose in the battle of PH?
One of the nuttier theories was that the attack was conducted by the Royal Navy with airplanes painted to look Japanese.
Granted, FDR wanted to join in with Britain in their war against Germany, but not Japan. No evidence that he wanted war with Japan that I am aware of.
The OSS wasn't set up until 1942.
