Now that’s weird, when the sun goes down that’s when I lose AM signal. I listened to Herman Cain during the early fall late summer down in my work-shop, but with the time change, I don’t even bother.

I live about 30 miles east of Atlanta.

Some AM radio stations are required by the FCC to lower their transmitter’s power at local sundown to protect the signals of other stations which operate on the same frequencies in other parts of the country.

This is due to the “skip effect” of AM signals, which can travel long distances by bouncing off of the ground. This is why you can receive the signals of some high-power stations clear across the country from where their transmitters are located.

as the sun goes down am stations turn their satelites (or that’s what they did 15 years ago)so it doesn’t mess up fm frequency (i think that’s why). You probably can pick up 1110wbt out of charlotte when the sun goes down. I pick up the savage nation out of wor in Ny. it’s all crazy.
