5 Lessons From the Deadly Mumbai Terrorist Attacks
Threat Matrix Highlight
While it's too early to know for sure how many terrorists were involved in the three-day shooting spree in Mumbai, counterterrorism officials in the United States and India are already sifting through the evidence in search of clues.

A Pakistan-based militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, or LET, is the top suspect in the three-day terrorist rampage that left more than 170 people dead, U.S. officials say. "While it's too early to jump to any final conclusions on who may have been responsible for the Mumbai attacks, there are some solid indications that people associated with [LET] were involved," says one U.S. counterterrorism official. India's most wanted, Dawood, with help from Pakistan, has eluded for more than 15 years.
India also suspects that along with the Lashkar-e-Toiba, the Jaish-e-Mohammad and its founder Masood Azhar are also involved in the attacks.
Azhar is wanted in India for a string of terror strikes including the attack on the Parliament in 200 that brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war."

Moscow races to finish Iran’s Bushehr reactor by mid-2009
Exclusive Report

December 2, 2008, 10:47 PM

Iranian and Moscow sources report that Atomstroiexport, the Russian firm under contract to build and activate Iran’s nuclear reactor at Bushehr, is offering nuclear engineers and technicians top salaries to leave for Iran at short notice. The Kremlin has promised Tehran to have the reactor up and running by mid-2009. Some 1,600 experts are already at work on the site; the project is short of another 500 to meet this deadline.

An Atomstroiexport spokesman explained this week that the main technology for the station has already been installed “so the construction work is getting under way.” Our Iranian sources report that this is the first time Russian officials have admitted that the Bushehr reactor is close to completion.

Sergei Kiriyenko, director of the Russian company, visited Tehran on Nov. 27 to tie up the final stage of the reactor’s construction. Kiriyenko, former Russian prime minister and personal emissary of the incumbent prime minister Vladimir Putin, again assured the Iranians that the reactor would be ready to go within a few months.

Our sources add that the Bushehr plant will make it possible for Iran to produce plutonium for nuclear weapons. Its completion will provide Iran with an alternative weapons fuel option in addition to the enriched uranium already accumulated for its first nuclear bomb. US and Israel intelligence had believed the plutonium track lagged behind the uranium process. However, now that Moscow has embarked on a crash program to finish the Bushehr project, this no longer holds true.

I volunteer with the Red Cross and we received notification this afternoon to be on call for a “national event”. What this means is they are preparing for a “possible event” in connection with the inauguration, so that they could have national disaster teams respond within 3 days.

We received similar national calls last year in connection with hurricanes and the mid west flooding that occurred, and local alerts for several severe weather situations.

WTF??

The word, "Jew," "Jewish," or "Chabad" are not even mentioned in this "Threat Matrix," despite the deliberate attacks on Jews first and Westerners second! Did they ignore the fact that Jews were targeted first and tortured to death? Did they think that these MF's sexual mutilation of a Rabbi and his wife were not newsworthy?

But, in fairness to the Indian security forces, several security experts say that even an American city faced with simultaneous attacks at a rail station. But, in fairness to the Indian security forces, several security experts say that even an American city faced with simultaneous attacks at a rail station, major hotel, tourist hub, and religious center would be hard pressed to muster enough commandos.

Aw, bull! Every SWAT team team in the country would have been better equipped and done a better job, if it ever got that far. For whom are we making excuses?

Mumbai is about as soft a target as they come. Read the last paragraph:

Terrorist violence is nothing new, especially to Mumbai. In 1993, 15 bombs killed 257 in the country's financial and entertainment capital. In 2006, more than 200 people died after a coordinated strike on the city's transit system.

So, after all those attacks, why on Earth did the police only have WWII-issue weapons?

Low-tech attacks can do tremendous damage. The attack itself appears to have required little specialized knowledge from the attackers. Automatic rifles and hand grenades appear to have done the most damage

Yet, another bogus comment. These attacks were conducted by terrorists well-trained in paramilitary skills. The attack was masterfully planned and carried out with far more precision than anyone imagined back when this article came out. sad to say.

So, why are we revisiting this post?
