I'm not sure what H-S was thinking when they decided to hire this despicable thug as a spokesperson, but they are in dire need of remedial correction for this deplorable business decision. Interesting that you guys should bring up the 110.
I've been looking into getting a Rem 700, but I've been hearing from a number of sources that the Savage 110 is actually more accurate. Nothing but good reviews. Plus I've learned that they cater to left-handed shooters (of which I'm one) much better than other companies.
Definately going to be looking hard at one of these before making up my mind.
I’ve got to think the owner of h-s precision has a law enforcement, fbi or possibly batf background himself to think that a cold blooded, murderous animal like horuchi is a good spokesperson to have his product associated with.

Mine is a Model 12 Varmint BVSS in 22-250.It will shoot pop cans at 300 yards with Hornady factory ammo.
It makes one hole at 100 yards.
The 8-24 x 50 scope helps as well
I love my Model 10FP .308 with 20” barrel and Swarovski scope.
That’s a 12BVSS or 112BVSS. I have the latter in .30-06 with a Canjar single-set trigger. When I first bought it, it was very short throated and couldn’t chamber anything much longer than an M-2 ball round. After the gunsmith ran a finish reamer into the chamber I was able to use my standard load of 200gr. Sierra Matchking over IMR4350. It’s a serious tack driver with that load. And that Savage stock is both easy to modify (forend sling rail) and VERY reasonably priced.
I was going to email Savage and ask them to stop buying from H-S, but they don’t do email. I’ll call them when I get a chance.

That fits what I understood about the ambush - but still, didn’t Harris, essentially, shoot Degan in self defense?
I've got a .223 and a .30-06, and both shoot better than I do (with factory ammo, no less). Weaver scopes & Timney triggers on both...

My Model 110 loves Norma 150 gr. Jaktmatch, so I have not changed a thing. My attitude is, if it works, don't fix it. I had a buddy who had a Ruger Number 1 in .270, that would shoot nickel-sized groups using commercial hunting ammo. He decided the butt stock was a bit too long. I begged him not to mess with his rifle (he was shooting those nickel-sized groups, not me, and I had heard the Number 1's were sensitive to furniture changes). He did it any way: had the stock shortened, the groups went to h@ll, and he sold the rifle. How nice...

I have an older Savage with a "sharpshooter" trigger.I do like the new "accu-trigger" down to 1/2 lb.

I'm a gray haired old fart - I bought both rifles before any precision factory triggers were available. Frankly, I was surprised to find Timney triggers available (at Midway USA) when I finally did, back in the '90s. I ordered two. One showed up with some pretty severe rust on it (no idea if that was Midway's fault or Timney's - still have never had a bad experience with Midway, just for reference).
I installed that one (after cleaning it up) on the 06, trigger pull was safe at 3 pounds (which I figured was about right for a 'hunting rifle'). Shoots Norma 150 gr. Jaktmatch into one hole at 100 yards (I'm not really a hunter, so I'm happy with Jaktmatch ;>).
The other one went in the .223, and gave me a safe, reliable trigger pull in the 1.5 pound range, which seemed right for my use. Shoots Federal 'plain wrap' 50 gr. HP into one hole at 100 yards (what luck! - a lot cheaper than the Jaktmatch!) But I'm out of the Federal ammo now, even though I like to buy in bulk, and can't find anymore, so I'll have to try other options.
I hear the optional factory triggers offered by Savage are even better (lucky you ;>)! Thank you, Savage, for listening to your customers, and providing world-class products at every-day prices!
Now I love my Remington tactical a little less.

I'm a plinker, who likes to try a lot of different loads to see what works (how else do you wind up with Norma Jaktmatch in a Savage 110? I did, & it works for me. ;>). Definitely not a competitive shooter, and I don't want to give that impression...

I disagree. There are always situations where a precision shot can end a hostage situation with no innocents killed. There was even a recent case where a disturbed man with a gun was sitting in his yard threatening to kill himself. From a range of about 200 yards, a sniper managed to execute a "cold shot" and literally shoot the gun from his hand. This one has been on YOU TUBE and various television shows. Actually all law enforcement agencies have a legitimate need to employ snipers, but there should be an efficient means of vetting those individuals to screen out the folks who enjoy the process.
By the way, I don't get your contempt of the whole hot or cold blood thing. Personally, if I'm a commander and I need one of my sniper assets to make a cold shot (a shot that has to be 100% effective the first time) then I sure as heck want ice water in his veins and a coldly professional attitude to get the job done. I sure wouldn't want some hot headed young twerp with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove.
Horiuchi should have refused the order to shoot but he was in fact operating under orders that were contrary to agency policy. Instead of a policy where subjects outside and armed MAY be taken under fire, the on site policy seemed to have been: Armed subjects SHOULD and MUST be fired upon. However the higher ups on that seemed to have slipped away. Still he should not have risked the woman and her child. He claimed he was actually shooting at an armed male trying to dart thru and open door in the cabin. He took the shot under the (improper) on-site orders but Vickie and her baby walked into the shot. He should not have risked that. But he wanted to take the shot and he wanted the pic of his trophy thus proving a certain level of psychosis. The folks who should be keel hauled under an aircraft carrier are the ones who changed the rules of engagement and the folks who chose and supported Horiuchi.
Snipers are a fine tuned instrument of surgery. They should never be used as a blunt instrument of terror. That seems to be an institutional facet of life in certain federal agencies. US Marshals, FBI, BATFE, and it appears to include some portion of Delta Force (judging from reports of their role in Waco).
It appears that you missed a key element of my statement:
That Horiuchi has no other assignment; he was a sniper, and nothing else. I can understand having a well qualified sharpshooter do such an assignment on occasion, but that would not be as dehumanizing as Horiuchi’s killer-only assignment.
The determination of who shot Degan is inconclusive. All of Harris' charges were dropped at the trial. From my understanding, it was a friendly fire incident.
