In the office block in downtown Washington where Barack Obama's White House transition team are at work, there is no time for breaks.
Lunch is taken at desks. Staff need a good reason to go out at all.
But a little after lunch on Wednesday two Obama aides went to a local coffee shop to talk. Both were veterans of the campaign, hailed as the best organised and most disciplined in US history, which has made their boss the first black president.
Both had come to believe, in the crucible of the campaign, that Mr Obama's judgment was superior to their own. But when they met on Wednesday they agreed on one thing: "He's making a mistake." As one of the participants told a friend later that night: "She'll do a good job but she'll do it for herself, not for Barack. I can't bear the drama again."
She, of course, is Hillary Clinton, former First Lady, figurehead of Democratic women, presidential candidate with 18 million votes and now would-be Secretary of State.

Meet the new boss — same as the old boss.
Hiring Her Heinous is like hiring Dracula to manage the Blood Bank.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
HAHAHA - and so it starts !
I think this was really smart on O’s part. Let her give up her elected seat, goof it up on the world stage, and get fired. The Sec of State serves at the pleasure of the president. Then he can kick her out of DC once and for all.
Yep. The infighting has begun.
How does Obama think he can control the Clintons? They can’t even control themselves. And best of all they come with their own coterie of sycophants who will be far more loyal to them than to Obama.
I keep seeing in the news reports that she has accepted the job of SOC, but I have not seen a report saying that 0 has offered it to her.
Obama is in the process of hiring scapegoats. My prediction is Hillary’s appointment is going to accomplish a couple of things. First, she will no longer be in the Senate and somewhere after Obama’s first year something will happen and Hillary will be ‘asked’ to resign. Just one more year of the Clintons?
So how long is it going to take for people to figure out The One is completely clueless. That asking questions isn't the same thing as making intelligent choices towards a specific outcome.
What experience and credentials does she bring as SOS? I mean really, next to BHO, she is the least experienced member of his new and improved kitchen cabinet....
I wonder what Ron Brown would say...
A lesson Obama has not learned.
Exactly! Thanks for posting that.
I’m actually happy with her in the position. Kind of an insulator if you will. I think she’s more center than left and hopefully she will a) be able to manage some of 0’s leftist ambitions, or b) be an insider to leak what is really going on.
I’m not a Clinton fan, but I think she loves this country and is not as left as 0. Also, with a past president as her pillow buddy, they might be able to influence some of the politics to keep our company from becoming a marxist state.
When oil prices start going back up. The only reason why they are down now is because China and India are in recessions. When they get out of it—because they actually discovered that socialism doesn’t work unlike our leaders—oil is going right back up. So much for the whole “IT’S ALL BUSH’S FAULT!” line.
