Thursday, November 20, 2008 The Pentagon has suffered from a cyber attack so alarming that it has taken the unprecedented step of banning the use of external hardware devices, such as flash drives and DVD's, FOX News has learned.
The attack came in the form of a global virus or worm that is spreading rapidly throughout a number of military networks.

Have you seen this yet?
DoD has not "closed down operations" or shut down their computer networks.
It's a colossal pain not to be able to use thumbdrives (because of the limitations of mailbox size) but it's not the end of world.
CA....
“They’d be better off banning the use of Windows.”
You said it. Linux or AIX would be my choices.
This attack sounds like a ChiComm operation.
May I ask why? Just curious. I’m in my 11th month of owning one.
Just damn. This can’t be good.
>>>>>Bringing a thumb drive or other media into a classified environment will probably get your clearance pulled.<<<<
That’s certainly true now, and it’s a good thing.
Out in the field things have been looser.
At least they won't have missing the "B" and "S" letters on their keyboards.
Let’s see.....who could have done this?
Does it start with a c and end with an a?
I'm guessing it's the Chinese.
.... Watch, were gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy, Biden assured. I dont know what the decision is going to be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it is going to happen.
Biden also made similar remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser the day before, ABC News reports.
Were going to face a major international challenge, Biden said. Theyre going to want to test him, just like they did young John Kennedy. Theyre going to want to test him. And theyre going to find out this guys got steel in his spine. Biden said.
I don’t have any personal knowledge of the nature of the origin of the problem, but the Wired Magazine Danger Room blog says it’s a worm from 2005.
Hey, I found Harry Potter on your link. Now, that’s some serious stuff!
For exactly this reason. It helps keep trojans and viruses out. I am amazed they are just now making this kind of rule.
Isn't enough money in the universe, much less the defense budget, for that.
Here's a hint: the millions of zombies out there sending spam by the billions per day aren't Linux or Macs.
1) first the cyber attacks on the pentagon
2) then the cyber attacks on Wall street
3) then a targeted assassination attempt
4) then La Fin du Monde
BINGO! Security is ALL about cost vs risk management...You can always tell who the security armchair generals are....
