Thursday, November 20, 2008 The Pentagon has suffered from a cyber attack so alarming that it has taken the unprecedented step of banning the use of external hardware devices, such as flash drives and DVD's, FOX News has learned.
The attack came in the form of a global virus or worm that is spreading rapidly throughout a number of military networks.

Cyber attacks on the Pentagon have been going on continously for years.
The frenzied apocalyptic panic on this thread is a bit much.
Um, I work in a similar secure area, and these devices have been banned for quite some time.
Only a tiny fraction of DoD networks and personal computers are classified. It’s not like the B-2 bomber blueprints and the complete war plan against West Bumble are on every computer.
Probably the biggest problem for the classified networks is the fact that there are a lot more classified computers than classified computers connected to a classified network. Thus, people had thumb drives used only for classified information, that were locked in secure storage every night, so they could transfer files to the computer where they actually sit and do their work.
Hey rook...are you aware of OPSEC and that fact that you are here bloviating about and boasting of your knowledge, experience and (supposed) expertise with DoD information systems and architecture, as well as information assurance capabilities, and that is a major and prosecutable violation of military regulations and federal statutes?
As easily traceable as you on the internet, are you aware that you have made yourself an attractive target of FIO’s?
And I suggest you have a discussion with your security office about what you are divulging on the internet, to protect yourself, and more importantly, those who actually wear a uniform and suffer the consequences of your ego.
Nothing I have spoken of is classified.....but you should already know that right? I mean...for someone who can’t talk about what they do because of the security involved right?
Thank you big’ol_freeper
Congress? I didn't say anything about no stinking Marxist Congress. I'm talking DOD. They can NOT spend the money on winders, and if they want, put the money they save on that insecure POS OS, into something else. Bullets maybe? Body armour, A-10 upgrades?
I'm sure they could come up with something.
Son, you must have fallen asleep during security awareness and SAIDA training. The level of security of the information does not matter. You keep your GD mouth shut so the enemy can't piece together information that divulges our capabilities and limitations.
Now put you ego back in your panties and stand down.

How about a 17 year old kid from Lithuania?
“I do security in the DOD for a living”

You have once again demonstrated that you are a fake or a fool because anyone connected with DoD knows that just because you can Google it does not make it public information and you are still obligated to zip your lips and protect that information. Now do us all a favor and shut up.
Mine too, it won’t let you surf and has more bells and whistles that pop up telling you access is denied. I work for a hospital!
One would click on a bogus email, and it would automatically spread the virus to everyone in your address book. The only real damage it did was to overwhelm the system with thousands of bogus emails, thus slowing the servers to a crawl.
It took maybe six months to get that under control. It was mostly a matter of education. If you didn't recognize the sender, don't open it, delete it, and notify the webmaster.
Is the system being tested for weakness or is someone preparing for an attack?
Oh yea....you know what you’re talking about.....You’re a riot!
