BOSTON Turns out that when it comes to biting White House visitors, President Bush's dog Barney is a repeat offender.
Boston Celtics public relations director Heather Walker said Friday that Barney bit her wrist and drew blood as she tried to pat the Scottish terrier in September after a White House ceremony honoring the team's 17th NBA championship.
"It was very strange. I didn't expect him to bite me," Walker told The Associated Press.

I love the Barney pics!
And I was there for one of them (2004 Inauguration).
These reporters and this story are disgusting. Anything, and I mean ANYTHING to tear President Bush’s heart out they will do.
President Bush should keep Barney away from reporters from now on and if asked why say something like, “He doesn’t like skunks.” (I can dream)
No, I wasn’t joking! And I use to run a daycare, for 8 years. I have to tell you, that your kids are special, if they never bit anyone! Every baby I have ever raised, bit someone at least once....
I better do some self examiniation and see what it is about me that drives those around me to bite! LOL!
Really, you hit on the problem with the dogs. You are afraid of them. They know it, and act aggressive. They try to dominate you. Gotta watch Ceasar Milan!
I had to smile at that one and sadly thought the media will never run with this if he had been a Republican then they would have.
I remember when Barney got dropped
That made me go OUCH
Barney’s not mean. He’s just smart.
It was a stupid move on the reporter’s part and I can’t believe it’s been in the news this long.
Meanwhile, we still don’t know for certain the origin of the “President-Elect”.
sad tale
Yes and that proves he is not a mean spirited badly behaved dog otherwise he would have rounded on the President and possibly bitten one of those children.
Can they arrange a meeting with Olbermann and Barney? Go for the Jugular Barn Barn.
are you obtuse?
My dogs are trained! I do not joke about dog bites.
I am trying to explain normal dog behavior to people who seem to think they should be entitled to interact with any dog, anywhere, anyway they please, with no undesirable consequences.
This is just stupid thinking, probably from watching too many cute Disney movies.
Dogs are to be respected and trained properly, not treated like cute little stuffed animals, or human kids. After all, how many kids like total strangers coming up and patting them on the head, pinching their cheeks, etc?
We have our Malinois trained to “bark and hold”. That means growl, intimidate, lunge, and air-snap at strangers. My male Malinois does a perfect “Cujo” imitation at the front door. He keeps it up till I get to the door and see who it is. Then, on command, he sits while I deal with whoever it is, and he is always overjoyed when it is a family friend.
We are elderly, and live in an area where it would take 911 at least 15 minutes to get to us. Our dogs are our best friends, and main protection. They give us time to get the gun out of the closet, and load it up with ammo.
I feel sorry for families whose children are kidnapped right out of their bedrooms. If they had properly trained protection dogs, no stranger would ever get into the house.
I also feel sorry for people who do not understand how magnificent the bond between good dogs and their humans can be. Our lives are constantly enriched by our two Malinois. They not only keep us safe from wandering strangers, but also keep the hawks and crows from snatching the chickens, the baby lambs, the deer and the rabbits out of our garden, and they are decent mousers, to boot!
Not at all. Actually, if I were President, any journalist that wanted to have a one-on-one chat with me, would have to swim through a shark and piranha infested moat I'd have dug around the White House.
Approaching a dog you've never met with your hand over the dog's head or at mouth level is asking for a bite. As I am sure you know, patting a strange dog on top of the head places the dog in a submissive position and can make the animal feel threatened.
Your approach is quite correct. We have pure-breds with AKC obedience titles on both but if they feel threatened, they let you know about it.
“Barneys not mean. Hes just smart.”
While I detest most of the media people I also detest dog owners who do not control their dogs. If he’s getting nippy or bites then he needs to be controlled.
Are you of the belief that no matter how a human misbehaves toward a dog, the dog is never entitled to self-defense?
a good description of the Scottish Terrier. I really like the breed!
Not sure I would want to trust them on a totally reliable recall, however, when the local game comes passing by!

I agree the majority of dog bites are the human at fault not the dog. Yes there are viscious dogs and they unfortunately need either to be contained or destroyed but Barney is not one of them.
The Barney photos and films (cams) prove he can be trusted around strangers who appreciate how dogs interact with people.

Ours are Cairns. When either one sees a squirrel, school’s out :)
Most dogs I have met seem to have a sense of humour
