John McCain and Sarah Palin
Townhall.com ^ | November 15, 2008 | Bill O'Reilly

Can someone please explain to me why Sarah Palin is still getting trashed a week after the election? I understand that the left-wing media hammered her during the campaign because they obviously favored Obama, and I also realize that scapegoating has become a national sport. But isn't enough enough with Gov. Palin?

Apparently not.

The fascinating thing about the latest round of Palin bashing is John McCain's reaction. A day after the election, Fox News political correspondent Carl Cameron reported on my TV program that some anonymous McCain staffers were frustrated because Palin didn't know much about the world. The now famous accusation is that the governor did not even know that Africa is a continent.

Palin immediately denied it, and you would think McCain would have stopped that kind of vicious garbage in its tracks. But it took the senator six days before he publicly stuck up for her. So let me ask you something. If a friend of yours was being humiliated, would it take you six days to lend support?

Finally, this week McCain went on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and said he was very "proud" of Palin.

Simultaneously, the liberal media continue to pound the governor as a Marie Antoinette clone, a person who spends lavishly on silk shorts and "spray tanner," as Maureen Dowd wrote in The New York Times.

But even if that's true, WHO CARES? The woman lost and will not be the vice president. Somebody tell The New York Times.

Why is all this happening? Palin is a strong pro-life voice and, as such, has a giant target on her back as far as the left-wing media are concerned. She must be destroyed as an example to other women who may try to promote a pro-life position.

On the right, some Republicans believe that Palin is simply not smart enough to win a national election, and they don't want to have to deal with her again in 2012. If she can be marginalized now, that is a good thing for them.

As for McCain, my colleague Juan Williams believes he just didn't care enough to step up and defend his running mate. He lost, he's resigned, that's that. It's impossible to read anyone's mind, but McCain demonstrated the same lack of urgency in dealing with the Palin-bashers that he did throughout the campaign: There's an economic crisis in this country. Did you get the feeling McCain understood that?

It's impossible to ascertain exactly why Palin continues to get hammered, but fair-minded Americans surely know that it is unnecessary and mean-spirited. This time, enough really is enough.

I will not forgive BO and Carl Cameron for the hit job they did on Palin; Cameron should have been fired and BO enjoyed the trashing of Palin far too much.

I agree. And Ted O'Baxter is trying to put ALL of the blame on Ca-moron.

I don’t watch much FNC anymore; I found Brit to be severely lacking in the election coverage, with his team of “all stars” fully in the tank for Obama.

Same here. My wife used to complain because I had FOX NEWS on from the time I got home from work until bedtime. Recently, she noticed that it has not been on since right after the election. When she asked about it, I told her that it is a combination of not being able to bear watching all of the fawning coverage of a Marxist Thug who will destroy the country, and a refusal to support a network that allowed Governor Palin to be trashed by "unnamed sources".

And after what Carl did, I have turned them off and tuned them out.

Ted O'Baxter and Carl Ca-moron both need to go away. But, at the very LEAST, they should have to apologize to the Governor AND to their viewers. It will never happen, though, because O'Baxter is the most arrogant, pompous, self rightous piece of excrement to ever have a program on television. Just yesterday, on another thread a FReeper posted a link to a You Tube videa of O'Baxter throwing a foul mouthed hissy fit earlier in his career. Based on what I saw there, he should never have made it to where he is today.

Major ditto here, Laverne!

I suspect that the reason so many out there have a problem with Sarah is because she demonstrates so many qualities and concepts that they instinctively know that they themselves have discarded (if they ever had them),and they do not want anyone out there reminding all of us of what the Left has tried so hard to drum out of our culture:

1. Concepts of love of and responsibility for those AROUND us, and not rallies and false tears for those far away.

2. Direct approaches to solutions to problems that are untainted by political correctness and expediency.

3. Courage (she has more than the entire male population in Congress)!

4. Love of her surroundings (country)! We should all be so “infected”.

5. She is a DO’ER, not a talker. Oh, how liberals hate to see that!

6. Honesty (a quality almost totally absent on the political scene)!

Their is much more to Sarah, and many of us are thankful she came on the scene. She reminds some of us what we have lost.

As much as we adore her, though, we must not make the mistake of believing that she can do it alone. She needs MASSIVE support in the future, or all the praise we are giving her is worthless and self-serving.

We need Barracuda Power!!

HE still is propagating the “she is dumb” thing by saying “So what” instead of saying this is all lies. What an ass.

The continuation of the media criticism of Palin reminds me of the Dan Quayle episode. He was effectively neutralised by the negative media attention, forever. That’s what they are trying to do to her.

In four years when her name comes up, the news media will bring up the troopergate concoction, the clothes issue and try to sully her ability to be seriously considered. The whole object is to make a cartoon character out of her, and not let her be taken seriously.

SNL appearances don’t help. She needs better public relations advice.

In a word, RATINGS!

Nobody wants to hear about Obama, he’s old news. Had Sarah been elected, they would have had news that people actually cared about for another 4 years but what are the poor old reporters supposed to do now?

Sarah’s a star!

Obama’s a burned out astroid on a collision path with Earth.

Laverne, you said “And after what Carl did, I have turned them off and tuned them out.”

I did the same thing! Every now and again I will peek for 1-2 minutes and invariably I will see Alan Colmes who is unwatchable or hear Bill O’Rielly taking a pass at confronting flaming-liberal guests. I duck for cover and shut the TV off again.

I am reading more. It is liberating.

Something I found out that I did not know:

BOR offered to McCain a half hour interview on The Factor during the same half-hour of the Obamamercial.

Yes, it would have been an interview, but he would have had free air time, and he would have had his opportunity to state his case to a national audience.

He refused.

I would like to have the last 3 months of my life back, and I bet Sarah Palin wishes that same thing.

First McCain saying he is “proud” of Palin is so conscending. He is a JERK! He kept using that work “proud” a mother is proud of her daughter..a son proud of his son..a candidate doesn’t use the word proud of an equal.

O’Reilly’s ratings must be suffering since Cameron appeared on his show. I know I no longer watch, although I stopped before Cameron’s appearance.

BOR demonstrates his shallow understanding of world events every night. I used to find him simply abrasive. Now it is apparent that he is ignorant as well. A nice guy, I suppose, but dumb as a post.

I gave up on BOR a while back. His support of the global warming lie and continued bashing of the oil companies was more than I could stomach.

The left must really be scared of Palin and that makes me smile. :)

Because she’s attractive, down-to-earth, articulate and smart and many of the MALE members of the MSM hate her because her balls are probably much bigger than theirs.

The alleged FEMALE members hate her for the reasons listed at the top.

Very simple, Bill. The media is desperately going for the over exposure angle so the masses will have Palin Fatigue by the time 2011 rolls around. If they turn her into a celebrity, all the 'celebrity' slams about Obama will become the latest media talking point to slam Sarah.

As a communications strategist in my current job, I advise leaders on the best way to benefit the company, and them. My advice for Sarah is this:

1. Enjoy the afterglow for a few more weeks.

2. Once Obama takes office, dig in to your job in Alaska. Produce results that benefit the citizens. Develop an even stronger resume.

3. Avoid the media. Decline any on camera or print interviews with any national media outlets. No exceptions.

4. Behind the scenes, watch every move Obama makes very closely, take notes, and develop counter arguments on how you would have done it differently with better results.

5. Galvanize conservative support, especially on the web. Use existing supporters to become more organized in an unofficial manner. Foster and feed a group of dedicated supporters to go viral on the web and shoot down any attempt to marginalize you. Obama has done this very effectively.

“This selection was historic in one way - never has a candidate NOT want to be elected, John McCain was. His candidacy was the ultimate payback to President Bush for the 2000 primaries. And the Libs were all so compliant in sticking it one more time, by giving Conservatives the ONE candidate they did not want.”

I think you are exactly right about this. McCain never got over his defeat by Pres. Bush in 2000. Never! He spent his time trying to sabotage Bush. I blame the press, of course, but also the cowardly republicans who were afraid to defend Bush.

Getting this nomination was the ultimate revenge ... except ... he lost. Thanks to McCain for bringing Sarah onto the national scene, though.

Dennis Miller said it best.

"Northeastern liberal women" are jealous of Sarah's healthy sex life with that guy named Todd. They don't understand how such a thing could be possible.

“..WHO CARES? The woman lost and will not be the vice president...”

Uh, BOR? Sarah didn’t lose. MCCAIN lost! Sarah only got him 95% of the votes he go which were almost enough for him to WIN!

You always say you want ‘pithy, BOR. How about you go pith up a rope! Our family will never watch you again.
