John McCain and Sarah Palin
Townhall.com ^ | November 15, 2008 | Bill O'Reilly

Posted on 11/15/2008 5:17:13 AM PST by Kaslin

Can someone please explain to me why Sarah Palin is still getting trashed a week after the election? I understand that the left-wing media hammered her during the campaign because they obviously favored Obama, and I also realize that scapegoating has become a national sport. But isn't enough enough with Gov. Palin?

Apparently not.

The fascinating thing about the latest round of Palin bashing is John McCain's reaction. A day after the election, Fox News political correspondent Carl Cameron reported on my TV program that some anonymous McCain staffers were frustrated because Palin didn't know much about the world. The now famous accusation is that the governor did not even know that Africa is a continent.

Palin immediately denied it, and you would think McCain would have stopped that kind of vicious garbage in its tracks. But it took the senator six days before he publicly stuck up for her. So let me ask you something. If a friend of yours was being humiliated, would it take you six days to lend support?

Finally, this week McCain went on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and said he was very "proud" of Palin.

Simultaneously, the liberal media continue to pound the governor as a Marie Antoinette clone, a person who spends lavishly on silk shorts and "spray tanner," as Maureen Dowd wrote in The New York Times.

But even if that's true, WHO CARES? The woman lost and will not be the vice president. Somebody tell The New York Times.

Why is all this happening? Palin is a strong pro-life voice and, as such, has a giant target on her back as far as the left-wing media are concerned. She must be destroyed as an example to other women who may try to promote a pro-life position.

On the right, some Republicans believe that Palin is simply not smart enough to win a national election, and they don't want to have to deal with her again in 2012. If she can be marginalized now, that is a good thing for them.

As for McCain, my colleague Juan Williams believes he just didn't care enough to step up and defend his running mate. He lost, he's resigned, that's that. It's impossible to read anyone's mind, but McCain demonstrated the same lack of urgency in dealing with the Palin-bashers that he did throughout the campaign: There's an economic crisis in this country. Did you get the feeling McCain understood that?

It's impossible to ascertain exactly why Palin continues to get hammered, but fair-minded Americans surely know that it is unnecessary and mean-spirited. This time, enough really is enough.

I will not forgive BO and Carl Cameron for the hit job they did on Palin; Cameron should have been fired and BO enjoyed the trashing of Palin far too much.

I don’t watch much FNC anymore; I found Brit to be severely lacking in the election coverage, with his team of “all stars” fully in the tank for Obama.

And after what Carl did, I have turned them off and tuned them out.

Don’t you just love it when BOR doesn’t have an opinion? He acts clueless, yet even a ‘pinhead’ can figure out what is going on.

I hope you will join me in turning off the tv, cable channels, and anyone who is part of the problem.

‘They’ probably don’t feel she would be a stong enough candidate in 2012 to beat Obama, so ‘They’ want to downplay her as a viable candidate.

Sarah handled all the ugliness just fine. She demonstrated a greater loyalty to lord McCain than he has to her, but that is not a new thing in lord McCain circles. He attempts to court conservatives when he want votes on election day. Then he spends the rest of his term cheating on them with his real loves.

Good job! Carl Cameron is an ass!

I also think that possible Romney folks are scared she is a force to deal with. It is ruining his hope for 2012.

The liberal media is afraid that she is popular enough to win the election in 2012. So they will spend the next 4 years trying to run her down.

It’s the same reason they keep mentioning Romney. The liberal press wants to see the Republicans nominate somebody who is practically a democrat and someone that they are certain can’t win the election.

O’Reilly’s ratings must be suffering since Cameron appeared on his show. I know I no longer watch, although I stopped before Cameron’s appearance.

Good luck with that BOR fans. ;)

I have to agree with Juan Williams. “ACE” just didn’t care enough, and picked up his perpetual backstabbing habit, after the votes were counted.

The media will do to her what they did to GWB. Yes, the media destroyed a good man, and I’m not saying that he didn’t make some decisions that left me scratching my head. However, he has not deserved what they’ve done, and shame on the right, or the so-called conservatives, who have added on by joining in the shrill screech. What a shame, but they have gotten by with it, so they feel empowered to destroy Palin so that in 4 more years, who’d even think of wanting her on the ballot? That is their agenda and it is up to us to reign it in. As long as we continue to buy, listen to, participate in any of their broadcasts, or buy anything connected with them in any way, we are supporting their efforts. We have done wonderful things in the past with boycotts of products and companies. We need to do this big time, putting them out of business. It is up to us. We either have the will to be bold and do this, or we are accessories to the crime of slandering a good woman.
