Extremists are threatening an environmental disaster by sparking a series of catastrophic wild fires. We first posted on this last year.
Western intelligence agencies fear that Al Qaeda terrorists are planning a global fireball in a new departure in its war on the West.
Deliberately lighting forest blazes in Europe, the US and Australia would not only stretch emergency services but leave insurance companies facing multi-billion pound damage bills as the credit crunch bites.
The fires would also create a pollution disaster, with billions tons of climate change gases escaping into the atmosphere.
The so-called forest jihad is being championed by Islamic scholars and Osama Bin Ladens terror strategists who believe setting fire to dry woodlands will produce maximum damage for minimum risk.

Ah now this is really gonna piss Oprah off.
His Obamic Holiness will save us, won’t he?
I do believe there has been lots of extra “red” in that photo
since it first came out.
Why would Al Qaeda want to risk making their friends on the left mad at them? Doesn’t make any sense. The environmentalists would want to slap Osama. That’s right, slap him and then slap him on the other side of his face (sorry only South Park fans will get this).
“Enough anger to call for wiping them all out.”
Wishful thinking. It would cause FAR more calls for understanding, to try to get to the root of their anger, to figure out what we did that pissed them off so much and to determine if a trillion dollars of reparations would soothe their souls.
I am certainly no expert but this seems highly implausible. To have a major forest fires I think you need certain conditions which don’t exist in Europe or in most of the US. The forest has to be extremely dry for a long period and those conditions don’t exist in most of Europe or the US. Not sure about Australia.
War is fire ... it has always been fire ... firepower ... fire arms ... fire when ready ... fire!!!! ... and when the boss gets pissed off enough, “You’re fired!” Therms are therms.

Santiago fire feasts on brush in national forest
Chaparral and erratic winds in Cleveland National Forest pose mounting challenge.
THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
Flames this morning are feasting on torrid chaparral and brush in the Cleveland National Forest, vexing battle-worn firefighters and heightening concerns that the Santiago blaze will put up a long fight.
While an ever-growing brigade of firefighters has scored major victories by managing to spare all but 14 homes, the inferno marches on, devouring 26,000 acres of land, blackening the sky and now inching steadily toward Riverside County and untouched Orange County cities.

There was a post earlier about a guy who was arrested yesterday for trying to start a fire somewhere in California. Fortunately a local homeowner spotted him, extinguished the fire, and called the cops. The guy was arrested and is now facing some pretty hefty charges.
Surprise, surprise..
