Army promotes first woman to four star rank
AFP, Yahoo! ^

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The female descendant of a long line of US military officers was promoted to four star general Thursday, the first woman ever to reach the top rung of the US military.

Ann Dunwoody accepted the promotion and command of the army's materiel command with humor and humility at a Pentagon ceremony so packed with well wishers that three star generals were standing in the aisles.

"When people ask me, Ann, did you ever think you were going to be a general officer, say nothing about a four-star, I say not in my wildest dreams," she said.

"There is no one more surprised than I, except, of course, my husband.

And you know what they say, behind every successful woman there's an astonished man."

That reminds me of “Operation Petticoat”: “Unable to recognize requested item ‘toilet paper.’ Requisition returned unfilled.”

Part of the time I worked at SAAD, we had a 4-star in command whom a number of us called "The Pillsbury Doughboy." I think that General Dunwoody could whop him, easily.

(I'm avoiding temptation when I don't post his name.)

Yeah, got her little feet dirty in logistics. Never was under fire.

Go **** yourself. Logistics, in the current operational environment is dangerous too. Who do you think IEDs target?

Spit.

Wanna do some more penis-measuring?

No, I try not to get into fights when my opponent is unarmed.

I just couldn't believe that anyone with any sort of military experience would be so clueless when it came to logistics.

While I always suspected that a woman would achieve a four-star rank in my lifetime, I had always expected it to be in the Air Force, Navy, or Coast Guard.

"I had the pleasure of serving under the first female ‘One Star’ General, way back when. Of course, this was during Operation Desert Storm..."

Actually, DIW, the first female BG was promoted in 1970. I simply happen to know this as a matter of family trivia, because an aunt of mine who retired as an O-6 had also been under consideration for the star :-)

I’m sorry. She was the first ARNGUS First Star General during ODS.

Sorry your Auntie missed out on the promotion. I’m sure she would’ve rocked, too.
