WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. intelligence agencies believe Osama bin Laden is isolated from al Qaeda and spending much of his energy merely surviving, the head of the CIA said on Thursday.

I would like to add a couple notes:
first of all, I stated above that we were legally at war with Hussein. We signed a cease fire agreement after expelling Hussein from Kuwait. A cease fire is not a Peace Treaty. Hence, we were legally at war and Hussein broke this cease fire on numerous occasions. He needed to go. When the US took him out, it was the first time that I know of where someone put some teeth into the sanctions we have imposed on people.
second: the world has never seen a military move further and faster behind enemy lines, remove the head of a government, and with the least amount of people dead on both sides. When the dust settles, people will see the outstanding job our Troops did. We have not shot a uniformed soldier, a flagged Iraqi tank or plane for a very long time. The war is over and won by the United States. Hussein is gone and we won. I don't give a red rats keyster what Scary Reid, Nancy Peloser, or Hussein Obama has to say about it, it is over and won. Now, we need everybody to help us give freedom to a people.
We need unity in helping a new Country stand on her own. One that will help us defend against terrorism. It will not be easy. And by declaring the war lost and by declaring we need to pull out is almost treasonous. It is seditious at best. Pulling out prematurely will turn the new Nation over to terrorist thugs. If the rats want to pull out, Obama and others better promise me that we will never have to go back and dig terrorist camps out of Iraq like we did in Afghanistan. If we do have to go back, Obama, Reid, and Peloser should be the first people dropped behind enemy lines to terminate the terrorist camps.
If Obama and others will continue taking the fight to our enemy, I will support him, our Troops, and their mission. If Obama pulls out early, I will blame the next attack on him, because he did not keep our enemy off balance. I will even volunteer to pack the Barry, Scary, and Peloser's 'chutes for their mission in Iraq.
Sorry to bloviate (BOR word and sorry about using it), but I had all that on my chest and it feels good to git it off.
If we do have to go back, Obama, Reid, and Peloser should be the first people dropped behind enemy lines to terminate the terrorist camps.
Followed by Jodie Evans, Media Benjamin, and the rest of the code pinko freaks.
osama the martyr? You mean barry won’t insist on a civil court trial?
Isn’t Pakistan a Hindu nation that has Nukes?
That is why the Communist Muslims want to attack Pakistan.
I can’t get over how similar the names are: Osama, Obama.

That's why I think he's dead. In the example that I used, about the suicide bombers in the malls, can you imagine the economic impact on the U.S.?
At this point, the value of him issuing feasible threats and possibly being martyred is much greater than him continuing to hide. Nothing he did in Afghanistan vs. the Russians with the Arab Afghans leads me to believe he has any aversion to martyrdom.
Do you seriously believe the CIA disbanded units looking for AQ HVTs?
Oh, definitely not. I'm sure they're still looking for the HVTs, I just don't think they feel they need to dedicate resources directly toward OBL.

You know, back in the Roman days, the Romans went after a guy (I can't recall his name), but the Romans never killed this guy. He died of a disease and his people buried him in a river. They damned up the river, dug a grave in the river bed and released the damn. The Romans never found him and spent a lot of cash looking for him.
Also, on our side, if we tell he American people Osama is dead, they will think that the war is over. Even if we get Bin Laden, that does not mean the WOT is over.
So, I don't think it would be in our interest to get him or announce that we got him. We must continue the fight against terrorism until our enemy loses the will to fight. We at home need to stand firm and not waver, tire, falter, or fail. Peace and freedom will prevail - W
? - But the vast majority still do believe him to be alive? Your suggestion only makes sense if the world thought he was dead, they do not. Nor does the radical Muslim world / street. Him remaining alive is PR (x1000) for the radical Muslim street. Putting out messages that give away clues to his whereabouts only leads the odds to our favor of putting guns on him one dark night. AQ/Himself have wisely chosen a different route.
Staying alive has been UBLs sole concern since we put boots on the ground in Stan. Far above his need or wish for PR. Remaining alive is first and foremost.
I will just say again, you should try and see / read between the lines of those in positions to "know" regarding OSINT and the continued hunt for UBL.
And be thankful for those risking all in some of the most brutally rugged and dangerous places on earth looking to bring justice to this man. He lives just as several other long time sought after HVTs live.
Would taking out Osama cut the head off the snake?
Or would al-qaeda go on just fine with out him?
They will go on. We must break their will to fight.
good post
“When you think CIA, think Valerie Plame...”
I also think about the CIA telling Bush that WMD’s are a “slam-dunk”, and then letting Bush twist in the wind. Combine that with the yellow cake and Plame...
Poor Osama can't refi his ARM on his cave on the Pakistan Afghan border. The peshmerga are about to foreclose on him. He needs Barney Frank and Chris Dodd's help and a rescue package.
Because of this darn Patriot Act, he can't get a loan.
Gunna take a lotta diggin’...;0)
I think Iran was the real goal.
By establishing a democracy in the middle east, and a neighbor to Iran, I think Bush thought the Iran gov. would fall.
Most of the citizens on Iran are pro-America and really want the lifestyle of the west.
The Pariot Act is so misused- it was never intended to have consequences like that.
Hell, we may die when we see how much more they have in common...
