Direct democracy, akin to mob rule, is perhaps one of the world’s most overated concepts.

In the beginning, at the founding of our great republic, only property owning males were permitted to cast ballots.

With the benefit of hindsight, I now see the wisdom of this model.

The very first LIBERAL Democrat to get elected president was Woodrow Wilson. He took office (thanks to a schism within the GOP) in 1913. In that very same year, three significant events occurred: The institution of the federal income tax, the creation of the Federal Reserve system, and the direct election of U.S. senators.

It has been down hill ever since for the republic. I am loathe to ponder what comes next following January 20th next year. I see why 13 is an unlucky number. 1913 was not a good year for the republic.
