SALINAS, Calif- Gun sales are through the roof all over the nation and the Central Coast is no exception.
Ever since Barack Obama became President Elect many are buying up guns. Worried that the majority of Congress who are Democrats will move forward on restricting firearm ownership.
It's a family tradition for owner Mike Handley he is a fifth generation hunter and has been raised around firearms. His passion inspired him to open up a hunting supply store in Salinas.
Handley reports that sales are up in his store "We defiantly have seen more foot traffic in the store. We have people coming in and purchasing firearms in the past couple of weeks because of the uncertainty and what gun bans Obama may present."
Handley thinks that there is a lot of uncertainty that is causing the firearm buying craze but thinks that gun enthusiast in California do not have much to worry about.
"California has stringent gun laws then the rest of nation already. So I doubt we will have any more gun bans in California because of Obama."
Gun owners who declined to be on camera said that they are worried about their right to bare arms but thinks that it will be a long time before the second amendment is overturned.
Barack Obama's Advisers say that gun legislation is not a high priority right now and that they are focused on the economy.
According to the F.B.I for the week of November 3rd - 9th they recieved over three hundred and seventy thousand request, for background checks on gun buyers. A forty nine percent jump since this same time last year.
Shhhhh!!! Don't tell anybody! We're supposed to own only EFGs with nice brown wood stocks and five round non-detachable magazines for rifles, 10 rounds for evil handguns. Everything else we bury in the nearest national forest.
(Fortunately about 1/3rd of the state is national forest.)
“...they are worried about their right to bare arms”
LOL...what’s the matter...are they that flabby?
BITS
If Obama isn’t concerned with gun control then what’s all this about ? Check it out.

Same for me here in Florida.
Funny you should mention that because I was thinking the same when reading about the stats on the BATF checks.
Another thing many of these figures don't take into account is the massive parts buying via manufacturer direct, mail-order and internet purchases of non-FFL stuff. Lots of people are building multiple upper modifications to fit on a single lower.
Any "pre-ban" stuff is hard or impossible to get. Nearly nothing is in stock.
Oh yes. Here's one made from an off-list (not on the Cal. Atty General's list of bad guns) AR-15 lower receiver with all the "bad" features made compliant so instead of an "EBR" (Evil Black Rifle) you know have a CPR (Cute Pink Rifle).
Yes that is a fully functional, California legal AR-15. I sure hope those anti-Prop 8 trouble makers don't take a shine to these.
“Theres guns in California?”
Lots and lots. A new Sportsmans’ Warehouse opened just prior to the election in Visalia. I was there at the Grand Opening, then again the other day. The long gun sections are still well-stocked, but the handgun area looked like a locust swarm had been through. I bought a couple boxes of .45’s, and I’d say they sold 3 or 4 guns in the 15 min I was there looking around.
The smaller local gun stores I have visited since the election are ALL low on stock, and having great difficulty getting more from distibutors. One local place has raised their prices substantially on the remaining handguns in stock.
I don’t believe this is California legal. It accepts a detachable high-cap magazine which you cannot buy.
Arizona.

Don’t commit a crime by filing a false theft report.
Just “sell” them at a gun show, etc.
You could even put an ad in the local paper or something and tell everyone who calls that someone already bought it.
Keep the ad as “proof” that you sold your firearm.
You can have a detachable 10 round magazine as long as there is no pistol grip (as in M1A and mini14) - hence the MonsterMan. That clip was permanently modified to only hold 10 rounds. It's not my gun so I don't know how that was done and seems like a waste of time but it does look funny.
I understand that there’s been a run on 8” PVC pipe as well.
Thanks for the clarification.
I visited my wife's family in Santa Fe Springs, CA, last year and dropped into an Turner's Outdoorsman to buy some ammo. What a contrast between my local gun store in AZ which has a rack of ARs, to the three (3) abominations I saw. All were ARs with handles, but had fixed 10-round magazines which one had to load by release the rear receiver pin and pivot open the action! The configuration depicted here seems "preferable" (if you could call it that).
I left CA in 1995 because I could. It deeply saddens me, especially when I consider the rest of the US could me made to adopt CA-style weapons laws. There will be no safe harbor.
Huh?
Home made mortars?
Caching.
Remember, if it’s time to hide ‘em, it’s time to use ‘em.
Well, might have some use.
But I seriously doubt there will ever be confiscation. Simple fact is that they could not do it in a day or a week or even a month, and that’s assuming they had the manpower.
If there was ever a start of a general gun confiscation campaign, you can bet we all would know about it one half hour after it happened.
And after that, a thousand newspaper boys and Jehovahs Witnesses a day would get shot dead right through the door.
I just don’t see how it’s feasible. The dedicated gun owners in this country simply far outnumber the gun grabbers way, way too much.
I expect dry ice, silica gel and hot glue sales will spike between now and late January.
That pink rifle is fully functional and fully CA compliant.
As long as you owned your full capacity mags before they were banned you may keep and use them. You may purchase any component necessary to keep your full capacity mags in running order as long as you don’t manufacture more mags than you had pre-ban. You can repaint full capacity mags pink and put flowers on them.
The pink, detachable magazine-fed, centerfire AR doesn’t have a pistol grip (it has a Monsterman grip), flash hider (just leave it off) or any other “evil” feature (like a grenade launcher), thus it is CA compliant.
It’s a fully functioning AR with a funny grip.
