Steele Likely to Seek RNC Leadership Post
Fox News ^ | November 11, 2008 | Bill Sammon

Posted on 11/11/2008 2:05:16 PM PST by St. Louis Conservative

Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, has decided to run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee and is in talks with Newt Gingrich to win the former House speaker's endorsement, FOX News learned Tuesday.

Steele declined to comment, but a source close to the situation said Steele would announce his candidacy as early as Thursday.

The source also contradicted a report in Tuesday's Washington Times that Steele and Gingrich were competing for the RNC post.

"There is no fight," the source said. "This tension between Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich is totally fabricated and, in fact, Gingrich and Steele are working together to create a new strategy for the direction of the GOP."

Good to hear hopefully Newt, Steele, and the rest of us conservatives can get organized with another Contract with America type deal that took national issues and made them local and getting majority of republicans on board with a untied front. Newt along with Rush made a big difference in 94.

They are only good for one purpose and it has nothing to do with hunting or self-defense under normal circumstances.

You need a chat with Ted Nugent. Possibly the ONLY valid judge of character and qualification for any candidate to head the rebirth of the conservative movement is someone who approves of assault rifles and has the stones to make it a centerpiece of any campaign. There are a LOT of folks who understand this. You're not one of them. Ask yourself this: What single factor has been the most common trait among neocons and RINO's? A: A fervent support for gun control legislation. It's never about guns, it's ALWAYS about control.

A variation on a theme used most often to explain why the Holocaust succeeded beyond the nazis wildest dreams can explain the creeping nightmare of gun control:

FIRST they came for the assault rifles and I didn't say anything because those aren't sporting weapons. THEN they came for the long range deer rifles claiming them to be sniper weapons and I didn't say anything because I'm not a rifleman. Then they came for the shotguns as weapons of mass destruction and I didn't say anything because I don't hunt poor little birds. Then they came for my home defense handgun and NOBODY said ANYTHING. Do you see?

Can somebody PLEASE post the video of Suzanna Gratia-Hupp giving testimony before the Senate on the true purpose of assault weapons? I've seen it but don't have a link readily available.

Oh, I disagree. I believe that we need Newt very badly, to go forward in a coherent manner.

The republicans are aimless and easily distracted. Newt brings them in line. He is a motivator! He has a place in history, and the future.

if they didn’t know in 94, they certainly did in 96

I doubt the average voter did in 96 but what is your point

You can disagree all you want but even Clinton and Democrat congressman admitted the Assault Weapons Ban and Brady bill cost them the house. the Christian Right was angered by the Gays in the Military and Clinton’s abortion policies and came out in droves

When did you EVER hear about the Evangelicals etc etc discussed as a base block for the GOP before 94

And there is a reason that the libs have been trying to convince the GOP to MODERATE on the Right To Life Issue
ever since —they know it will cause the CCs to stay at home election day

Okay, lets toss Steele overboard since he isn’t the pure Conservative. Where do we go next.

We’ll be back to McCain just like the Presidential race. Get rid of good men and women because they don’t meet our desired mold.

Someone who is not a waffler on conservative issues, particularly on the life issue.

Really? I was not aware of this. Are you sure?

I just don’t know about this. I love the guy but has he done anything of note at GOPAC? My gut says he’s better off in the Huckabee role - on TV and away from organizing anything outside of meet and greets.

Wanting pureness is how we got where we are today. If he’s not 100% dyed in the wool strict staunch CONSERVATIVE ... we don’t want him.

It got us Obama!

Steele is an excellent choice.

Steele is PRO-CHOICE.

From Wiki..
"Steele is opposed to abortion including in cases of rape and incest, but regarding Roe v. Wade itself, Steele has said that the principle of stare decisis ought to be followed."

Is that pro choice??

More of the same establishment Republicanism.

From my reading, Steele supports embryonic stem cell research, abortion and affirmative action. I suspect that he supports all existing federal gun control as well.

NO THANKS.

Not only is it Pro-choice, it is PRO ABORTION. It is essentially the same position that people like Nancy Pelosi take.

Roe is the roadblock to all pro-life legislation. Steele pretends to be against abortion, but he is against removing the single obstacle that blocks all efforts to preserve life.

Steele is a hypocrite and his effective position is Pro-Abortion.

If he is against overturning Roe v. Wade, then I don't want him.

I will vote for a truly pro-life democrat (if there is such a thing) over a pro-choice Republican (there are too many of those) any day of the week.

Without the right to life, all other rights are illusory.

It got us Obama!

What got us Obama was that too many so called Christians and pro-life democrats and independents compromised on the issue and chose death over life.

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: Deu 30:19.

Stay there. That will do you a world of good when the national security of this country is gone, the military is downsized and you pockets are empty.

Sometimes there are more important issues because without fiscal sanity and being secure within our borders ... the social issues will matter a tinkers damn.
