Steele Likely to Seek RNC Leadership Post
Fox News ^ | November 11, 2008 | Bill Sammon

Posted on 11/11/2008 2:05:16 PM PST by St. Louis Conservative

Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, has decided to run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee and is in talks with Newt Gingrich to win the former House speaker's endorsement, FOX News learned Tuesday.

Steele declined to comment, but a source close to the situation said Steele would announce his candidacy as early as Thursday.

The source also contradicted a report in Tuesday's Washington Times that Steele and Gingrich were competing for the RNC post.

"There is no fight," the source said. "This tension between Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich is totally fabricated and, in fact, Gingrich and Steele are working together to create a new strategy for the direction of the GOP."

After hearing Newt speak positively about Obama on Sean Hannity’s radio show today there’s no way I’d want him as RNC Chairman. He’s gone RINO bigtime.

I don’t think this fine forum is right now capable of what you and I want.

part of it is a generational thing

First thing I thought was Steele and Gingrich working together would be AWESOME. I wanted Steele as the head of the RNC when Bush picked Sen Martinez who didn’t even serve out his term and we got Duncan who no one heard from for the most part.

I also think that Palin should start a weekly podcast, explaining, clarifying and promoting true conservative ideals. It would be similar to Ronald Reagan giving speeches throughout the country on conservatism, but updated for the new technologies. Without the McCain handlers and hinderers, she can speak directly to the Americn people and four years from now be a solid choice.

You know, I really wonder WHAT these poeple REALLY know about “assault rifles”? I think MOST of them think we are talking about fully automatic contenporary military weapons and not the semi-automaitc clones of them which were availble for civilian use for many years - WITH NO REAL PROBLEMS - before Jim FLorio’s “assault rifle ban” spawned the national law and which wound up outlawing many semi-automatic rifles.

RE “The one thing about Newt is he knows how to win”

Newt knew how to say things that were easily quoted out of context and demonized. Remember the deeply unpopular Clinton of 1994 turned it round only one year later with the shutdown, he and demoratsused a quote of him saying “we will shut down the govmt if we have to” to balance the government. He did not win that Clinton did only one year later.

Steele is fresh and a conservative Black, a blessing for us to represent our party. Obama blacks 99% here in MD rejected him for a white liberal in 2006, Mfumi too.

I agree, and I think this is Newt.

The critical thing is to figure out what conservatism and the problems of the 21st century have to do with each other. Newt can do that better than anyone else around.

“He’s nowhere close to Newt on conservatism”

Please, I ask anyone that questions Newts conservatism to check out these two links;

Anyone that was around in the 90’s when Newt was developing the contract with America...you know where his heart is.

What about FReeper reports that Steele is a gun grabber?

Example...

Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?

STEELE: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you’re going hunting? That’s overkill. But I don’t think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But what’s the point of passing gun laws if we’re not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, that’s where you need to start. We’ve got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, it’s about how we enforce the law.

This is a SERIOUS problem for me.

I agree, most of the people are not intelligent enough to understand Newt’s “Contract with America

The contract was great made sense and was easy to understand --the voters were not aware of it and that is not the reason for the 94 GOP routing the democrats

If Newt understood the American people he wouldn’t have thrown his sick wife overoboard during an election.

He should go back to teaching or whatever it is he does.

Depends on what you are hunting Mr. Steele.
