Firearms Industry Addresses Rising Gun Sales; Obama Admin. Showing Anti-Gun Cards Early
MarketWatch ^ | 11/10/08 | Staff

NEWTOWN, Conn., Nov 10, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- As firearm sales continue to increase this year, at a rate of 10 percent over the same period last year and 15 percent in October alone, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association for the firearms industry -- is pointing to gun-owner concerns about an Obama Administration as reason for the boom.

Last week President-elect Obama's Web site had posted his administration's agenda for curtailing the Second Amendment rights of law abiding Americans, thereby validating the concerns of gun owners, sportsmen and firearms enthusiasts all across the country. Curiously, the Obama-Biden gun control agenda was taken down from the Web site after just two days.

President-elect Obama's Web site stated he would make permanent the expired "assault weapons" ban of 1994, a ban on firearms that was based on cosmetic appearance, such as the type of stock on the gun, and not functionality. The expired ban did nothing to reduce crime while it was in place. President-elect Obama's Web site intentionally misled the American people by referring to these firearms as "weapons that belong on foreign battlefields." These firearms are not machine guns. In reality, these commonplace firearms that President-elect Obama wants to permanently ban are used in shooting competitions and are found in homes and hunting lodges all across the country. They fire only once with each trigger pull, no spray firing, and they shoot the same ammunition as other firearms of the same caliber.

It's a lot easier to be an occupying army in a foreign land, where you spend tours of duty on secure firebases, with your families safe thousands of miles away from the war zone.

Translate the converse. Jackboots won't want to live in hiding on military bases, wearing disguises in public. The parking lot at Target can be a very long walk. Even jackboots will want to go fishing and play golf. They can't wear masks and body armor 24/7/365.

Michael Steele, who everyone is slobbering over as the next head of the RNC had this to say about Assault Weapons from the “on the issues” website.

Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?

A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you’re going hunting? That’s overkill. But I don’t think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But what’s the point of passing gun laws if we’re not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, that’s where you need to start. We’ve got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, it’s about how we enforce the law.

Wow...unbelievable.

I’ve always enjoyed watching Shepard Swish, he has a good sense of humor and when he gets all drama queen he’s a hoot to make fun of, but I’m not watching him anymore.

Thanks,

Ed

A lot of people talk really big here, but when it gets very quiet think this through. Are you really ready to shoot it out? Are you honestly prepared to face overwhelming odds with very experienced merciless people opposing you? Are you actually ready to die for your beliefs? Remember the footage of Waco?

Some folks will absolutely choose to shoot it out in their living room, and if there is steady jackboot attrition, it will have an effect.

But many more will hide their weapons, and turn in a junk gun as their Rubicon crossing point. After that, the war against the citizens will have been decleared, and the tyrants and their agents will be on the defensive. No tyrant has ever faced a million deer rifle army, where the standard unit is one.

"You tell me what conclusions I should come to."

If I were you I might conclude that a FReeper ID name change is in order.

Oh, you are more than welcome!

I use to be like you when it came to Shepard Smith, but he just became more and more unbearable to me as the campaign season roll along. I really made a mistake by sitting through that report today. When I started lisenting, I just knew I was not going to be happy.

I notice that most of the talk comes from new people.

How to outlast an Obama administration:

1) Join the NRA

2) Stock up on guns

3) Stock up on ammo

4) Don’t show anyone your gun collection, or tell anyone about your gun collection.

5) wait it out

1) check

2) check

3) in progress - don't forget reloading components

4) never

5) hopefully

also

6) pay cash for firearms related transactions

7) stay somewhat physically fit

8) practice, practice, practice

In six months you won't be able to find anyone who will admit to having voted for McCain. ;-)

Exactly what qualifies as an assault weapon.

It's whatever the gun-grabber says it is. The term is intentionally ambiguous so that it can be defined and repeatedly redefined over time. Each successive redefinition will have a broader meaning. I've seen "assault weapon" legislation that included a semi-auto pistol with 11 or more rounds.

Honestly EV, I cannot yet understand how McCain even got the nod.

I can understand the Obama choice from the dark side, but McCain?

We are so fractured. And, we were played big time in the primaries.

one criteria is that it can be switched from semi to full-auto.

and it also has the range of a bolt action rifle but can fire in a semi-auto fashion.

The fractures came because of the departure by so many from principle.

The Republican Party’s value is nearing the vanishing point.

Yes but it must be sent to someone in your state who has a federal firearms license...they run the background check and then you get possession of the handgun.

Yes you are right! Join the NRA www.nra.org My guess BHO will increase membership more than what Bill Clinton did...I just wish Heston were still alive to ignite the flame....we have to do it without him and in memory of our Founding Fathers. I sometimes believe that our Founding Fathers if they could come back they would pick up their muskets and come after us for letting this great nation come this close to the brink!

There were quite a few cases of people going to jail for illegal AW's during the ban. Even now, the 80% manufacturing crowd gets raided. The recent case of the guy with a malfunctioning AR from Wisconsin got 30 months in jail even without an AWB...

The Feebies don't need an excuse to kill us. They just need to be let loose. Something Barack will more than likely do regardless of whatever legislation gets passed.

Wars already started. No one cares...
