Calif. gov.: 'We will maybe undo' Prop 8
United Press International ^ | November 10, 2008

Posted on 11/10/2008 8:03:59 AM PST by Zakeet

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Sunday said "we will ... maybe undo" a measure passed by voters Tuesday stripping same-sex couples of the right to marry.

Proposition 8 amends the state constitution to declare that "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." It came in reaction to a state Supreme Court ruling that laws prohibiting same-sex marriage violated the state constitution.

In an appearance Sunday on CNN, Schwarzenegger said the state Supreme Court might overturn Proposition 8, the Los Angeles Times reported. He also said it is likely Proposition 8 will have no effect on the estimated 18,000 same-sex marriages already recorded in California.

"It's unfortunate, obviously, but it's not the end," Schwarzenegger told CNN. "I think that we will again maybe undo that, if the court is willing to do that, and then move forward from there and again lead in that area."

It was the first time I ever stayed home on Election Day.

Well shame on you. You should have gone to vote on all the other important offices (Tom McClintock lost the race for Treasurer on that ballot by a small margin) and just skipped Arnold.

At some point, probably sooner than later, people will stop bothering to vote. What's the point?

The radical left will still bother to vote, so we can't stop now. Heck, they continue to vote even after they're dead!

The GOP did such a good job sidelining conservatives all over the country that its funny as hell to now hear them blame conservatives for the GOP's plight! The moderates had the message, the candidates and the money. Why didn't they win? After all, they've told us this the only way to compete with the Democrats and this is what America wants.

It’s a long shot, but since our laws are now made by political correctness, not by the rule of law, anything is possible when this gets back in the courtroom.

The arguments ACLU et al are using in their case are the same ones they used to try to keep this off the ballot before the election. The court rejected the arguments then. Let's see if they respect stare decisis, indeed, their very own opinions! I do not have faith that they will.

There needs to be a recall effort to force him from office. <

We're talking about 21st century ultra-liberal California, not 1960s conservative California. Ahhnold would just be replaced by someone even worse, and will be anyway when his term is up.

A recall would be purely for the pleasure of throwing this Roid RINO out on his Austrian arse. Send him back to Hollyweird where he belongs.

California sales tax is currently 7.25%. An addition of 1.5% would make it 8.75%.”

There are 58 counties in Kalifornia.
They can set their own tax rates.
There is a base rate- which I don’t know the current amount.
If Arnold is trying to make the base rate as high as 8.75%, then the counties rates would be on top of that.

In MA the state legislature once struck down a death penalty bill voted in by the people (one state rep changed his
mind at last minute, perhaps under pressure, so it was
nullified) while another tax cutting proposal voted in was
rejected by legislature, or at least modified so that the
tax cut wouldn’t be so drastic.
This year:
A proposal to cut income tax by half in one year, then
eliminate it entirely the next, was defeated by a big
margin after a big scare campaign. Had it passed though
I’m sure the legislature, gov, or courts would have
rejected it anyway

If you can “undo” Prop 8 then we can “undo” the Presidential Election too. Makes sense doesn’t it?

There's no legitimate law nor constitutional recognition of something called gay rights!!!

The Constitution grants no special privileges to someone who chooses to be a queer. More importantly, homosexuality (perverted and against nature (Romans 1:26,27)) is denounced by natural law, from which our constitution was derived.

Quote from Sir William Blackstone (1723 - 1780), English judge, author, and professor who won recognition for his Commentaries on the Laws of England, the basis of legal education in England and America for years.

"Good and wise men, in all ages...have supposed, that the deity, from the relations, we stand in, to himself and to each other, has constituted an eternal and immutable law, which is, indispensably, obligatory upon all mankind, prior to any human institution whatever.

"This is what is called the law of nature, which, being coeval with mankind, and dictated by God himself, is, of course superior in obligation to any other. It is binding over all the globe, in all countries at all times. No human laws are of any validity, if contrary to this; and such of them as are valid, derive all their authority, mediately or immediately, from this original."

Sam here in Ohio we passed a constitutiona amendment in 2004 and so far it still stands. I don’t think the court can do much about this other than refuse to hear it. 30 states now have the same thing and so far none hve been overturned. The other 20 need to get busy so this issue can finally be put to rest for the next century or two.

“Yes you are right. This is a constitutional amendment, not just a regular law. So the courts don’t have the authority to overturn it.

The activists are going back to court with a long shot legal argument that this amendment is in conflict with the rest of the Calif. constitution, and the parts of the constitution used by the judges to justify same-sex marriage. It’s a long shot, but since our laws are now made by political correctness, not by the rule of law, anything is possible when this gets back in the courtroom.”

Great post!

“So the total for L.A. County would be 10.25%, the highest in the nation. “

Nope, we’re already there in Chicago and Cook County IL.
