Let's rally so Mr. Bush gets complete credit for Iraq success. We know Mr. Obama will get the troops out, so why to wait for him to do so? Mr. Bush should get majority of troops out and put his mark on the Iraq policy.

Read this article freepers and you will be mad

Oh...thank the non threatening Deity, Tom Friedman, the Arbiter of Smart, chimes in again on the two wars, thank you Tom, for descending from on High to explain to us primates the need for allies to join with Obama, we shall forever be in your debt Sahib, a million blessings!

Tom Friedman can stop smacking David Brooks on the back of the head at NYT staff meetings now.

Because many of our allies are incompetent. Like it or not the US succeeded. The Brits have decent soldiers but they’re hamstrung by politicians. Look at what happened in Basra!

So to everyone overseas I say: thanks for your applause for our new president. I’m glad you all feel that America “is back.” If you want Obama to succeed, though, don’t just show us the love, show us the money. Show us the troops. Show us the diplomatic effort. Show us the economic partnership. Show us something more than a fresh smile. Because freedom is not free and your excuse for doing less than you could is leaving town in January.

The article has some redeeming value.

The article is apparently written by an insane person. These paople have no grasp of reality whatsoever.

As to the title, it is more like casting Malcolm X to play Ronald Reagan!!

We know Mr. Obama will get the troops out

We know? When O takes over, he will get his marching orders. America will change from occupiers to peace keepers. But we will still be there. Probably under UN control.

Can you believe these guys. Next year at this time they'll all be under their desks in the fetal position pleading for our return.

” why don’t all our allies now offer whatever they can — money, police, aid workers, troops, diplomatic support — to increase the odds of a decent end in Iraq?”

Hey Freidman, did you ask that a year or 2 ago about getting behind Pres. Bush???

A year ago, this ass clown didn't give a damn if Iraqi's were butchered by the millions as long as it reflected poorly on Bush. He cheered (and joined in) every time some third world clepto-crat or Euro wennie took a cheep shot at Bush. Now he's all gushy about forming the first democratic government in the Arab world because he thinks that will bring political points to his side.

If this punk were paying attention 7 years ago, he would realize what the rest of us did. The only way in the world to being an end to the threat of Islamofascism before there is a holocaust that would make WWII look like a tea party is to somewhere in the Arab world establish a true democratic, pluralistic government and to allow that government to drag the rest of the region out of the 7th Century theocratic rule that the radicals feed from. That's what Bush has been attempting to do, and succeeding at it, with absolutely no help or support from idiots like Freedman.

It's nice you are finally on board Mr. Freeman, but you are way too late to the party.

How pathetic. The author, realizing the Obama is weak, begs to the world to help America fight rogue regimes!

the goal from the beginning, and still is, that the troops would come home when the Iraqi forces can handle the defense on their own. There is no way to put a timetable on such a goal. It is the proper goal.

We need to keep reminding ourselves and others that:

1. Europe has had peace and security since 1945 because American troops remain in Europe,

2.Japan has had peace and security since 1945 because American troops remain in Japan.

3. South Korea has had peace and security since 1953 because American troops remain in South Korea.

4, For Iraq to have peace and security in the foreseeable future, American troops must remain in Iraq!!
