Show Me the Money
NY Times ^ | 11/9/2008 | THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN

Examples: I understand any foreigner who objected to the U.S. invasion of Iraq and the gross mishandling of the postwar. But surely everyone in the world has an interest in helping Obama, who opposed the war, bring it to a decent and stable end, especially now that there is a chance that Iraq could emerge as the first democracy, albeit messy, in the heart of the Arab-Muslim world. Obama was against how this Iraq war started, but he is going to be held responsible for how it ends, so why don’t all our allies now offer whatever they can — money, police, aid workers, troops, diplomatic support — to increase the odds of a decent end in Iraq? Ditto Afghanistan.

Let's rally so Mr. Bush gets complete credit for Iraq success. We know Mr. Obama will get the troops out, so why to wait for him to do so? Mr. Bush should get majority of troops out and put his mark on the Iraq policy.

Read this article freepers and you will be mad

Oh...thank the non threatening Deity, Tom Friedman, the Arbiter of Smart, chimes in again on the two wars, thank you Tom, for descending from on High to explain to us primates the need for allies to join with Obama, we shall forever be in your debt Sahib, a million blessings!

Tom Friedman can stop smacking David Brooks on the back of the head at NYT staff meetings now.

You have to read the whole thing (get past the "Barack means blessing in arabic"" crap)

and maybe agree with the last paragraph! ........................
" So to everyone overseas I say: thanks for your applause for our new president. I’m glad you all feel that America “is back.” If you want Obama to succeed, though, don’t just show us the love, show us the money. Show us the troops. Show us the diplomatic effort. Show us the economic partnership. Show us something more than a fresh smile. Because freedom is not free and your excuse for doing less than you could is leaving town in January. "

Because many of our allies are incompetent. Like it or not the US succeeded. The Brits have decent soldiers but they’re hamstrung by politicians. Look at what happened in Basra!

The article has some redeeming value.

The article is apparently written by an insane person. These paople have no grasp of reality whatsoever.

As to the title, it is more like casting Malcolm X to play Ronald Reagan!!

I am not sure! The article is asking the world to discriminate against the Whites and Christians because of the policy a White President made.

Did you notice how it describes the new President? He is Black (not white), have some Muslim background (never mentioned his Christian faith) and it is important he succeeds that the world should support him!

Tom F forgets one simple thing — In rest of the world, people may rejoice but its their governments that make policies unlike in the United States. And they are not doling out money or anything else!

Friedman saying “America is back” because of Obama is like saying The New York Times is back, when in fact, they are mercifully flushing down the red Ink drain. There is a God.

If I were Tommy Boy, I’d worry more about the political war that started when the Madhi won the election. We should be contributing to pay for spinal implant surgery and testosterone shots for every Republican in government. Honeymoon for the new guy? I don’t think so. Courteousy and respect? The same they gave “W” and just as soon after this election as “W’s”.

Just you watch. If Obama says we have to at least make sure the Iraqi government is stable before we leave, you’ll never hear the phrase “puppet government” again applied to them.

We know Mr. Obama will get the troops out

We know? When O takes over, he will get his marching orders. America will change from occupiers to peace keepers. But we will still be there. Probably under UN control.

Can you believe these guys. Next year at this time they'll all be under their desks in the fetal position pleading for our return.

So let me get this straight: the press believes the other governments of the world are so naive that they need Barack and he should be given leeway in telling them how to run their countries?

That other world leaders should give Barack time to find his footing before continuing with their policies and plans? They’re testing him already and for some demented reason they shouldn’t?

I have nightmares of Zero (my new nickname lifted from another FReeper) going to China with the Dalai Lama and lecturing the Chinese as to why they should free Tibet. And then sermonizing on how blacks must be allowed to participate in their government affairs.

I do remember reading one post that showed an article by some black person saying Obama being elected would increase the respect the world has for blacks.

Hey Freidman, did you ask that a year or 2 ago about getting behind Pres. Bush???

According to Obama & the dems, we don’t have any allies.
