A Ramsey County judge on Saturday denied a bid by lawyers representing U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman's campaign to delay the opening of 32 absentee ballots from Minneapolis.
The request touched off a fresh war of words in a Senate race where 221 votes separate Republican Coleman and DFLer Al Franken in unofficial tallies.
The 32 Minneapolis ballots were part of the normal delivery of absentee ballots late in the polling day, according to Election Director Cindy Reichert.
She said they were retained when they couldn't be delivered because some polling places had shut down for the day. She said the ballots were kept sealed until other election duties were completed and were being counted Saturday afternoon, with results to be delivered to the state on Monday.
However, the Coleman campaign contended that the integrity of the ballots "is in serious doubt." Its argument for a temporary restraining order was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds by Kathleen Gearin, chief district court judge in Ramsey County.

This is pathetic. Isn’t there a time cutoff for absentee ballot mailings? If someone chooses to wait until the last minute to mail in their absentee ballot then that person deserves to be disenfranchised.
“We were actually told they had been riding around in her car for several days, which raised all kinds of integrity questions,” said Coleman’s attorney, Fritz Knaak.
So here are votes that were found in a car on Friday??
They were found in a car!
That only applies to military votes. Unless there is a vote for a rat in there somewhere. That one will be counted.
Seems like Pawlenty should be on top of this. But after being passed up for v.p., he was reportedly miffed.
And they knew just how many ballots they needed to manufacture as King County was and is always last to report.
I am still disgusted to this day.
This entire election was stolen, a fraud.....from the persona of their candidate to the counting of the votes.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN ...PLEASE....
I smell Coleman toast.
The DemonRats in Minnesota will find a way to get Franken elected. They’re still driving around with Wellstone bumper stickers and the poor guy has been gone for several years.
It won't make any difference if we start with a fresh slate! When idiots vote for a half-black person because he is simply half-black, overlooking the fact that he has associated with radicals and terrorists throughout his life; when idiots vote for a comedic clown with nothing going for him but hatred of conservatives; when idiots, who are called racists and rednecks, still vote for the dufus who slimed them, then all of the flushing in the world will eventually return the same dirt to the bowl......
They should go by to postmark. It is objective and easy to prove. This sets a standard that is easy to enforce and is fair to everyone.
So here are votes that were found in a car on Friday??
Shades of Chicago!
Unless the postmark was placed on the ballot envelopes after the fact.
Now if they were absentee military ballots they’d be thrown in the trash.
Mysterious ballots turn up here in NM also; some in car trunks, garages- amazing how they get around.
(We were actually told they had been riding around in her car for several days, which raised all kinds of integrity questions, said Colemans attorney, Fritz Knaak.)
Can you post a website link to where this quote of Fritz Knaak can be found?
One man one vote one day!
