The Republican vice presidential candidate attracted criticism for accusing Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists", citing his association with the sixties radical William Ayers.
The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric.
But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.
The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks.
Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?"
The revelations, contained in a Newsweek history of the campaign, are likely to further damage Mrs Palin's credentials as a future presidential candidate. She is already a frontrunner, with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, to take on Mr Obama in four years time.
Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues."
Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain.

More Leftard propaganda...Note: No member of the SS is being quoted as saying that Palin caused an alleged surge in Obama threats...Nothing here just typical Leftard Media smears against an effective Republican candidate.
That has already been proven to be a lie by the secret service. Someone is perpetuating the lie made up by a DUmocrat supporting "reporter" who was found to be the one behind printing the lie.
I thought you were saying you were there.
Since no one at the event that the Secret Service talked to heard "kill him," I think you heard what you were told you were about to hear. This is how they used to convince people that gibberish on the back of rock albums was satanic litany. It works with EVP's, too.
If you are calling me a DU'er BACK OFF, JERK! I posted what the SS said. If you HEARD IT why didn't you REPORT IT TO THE SS (since they investigated it)?!!!
That's what I thought also!
I guess Crim has better equipment than the Secret Service who listened to it over and over again and said it didn't happen.

WTF?
once agian...this is MORE THAN ONE INCIDENT.
I heard the first one with my own godamned ears...Palin was talking about bill ayres bombing the pentagon...a guy in the crowd yelled “kill him”...
the SECOND INCIDENT...as in...NOT THE FIRST INCIDENT...was found to be unproven and no one but the reporter heard it...and the second incident was what the press reported as a trumpped up threat on Obama...
Why is this so hard to understand?
Doubtful. List them, List the facts.
Who, what , where , when, and Why.
Without those facts I am not believeing a word of it.
Just like the two skin heads who were going to shoot up a school, were Assassins of Obama ( no means or opportunity, just braggadocio.)
Obama has more Kenyans wanting to assassinate him than Americans.Obama did some nasty campaigning for the Kenyan Tango, Odinga. Many Kenyans died in post election "riots". Many Kikuyu Kenyans blame Obama. That is where there is a real threat of an Obama assassination, not from Americans.
‘Oh jesus christ, is this place turning into DU now????”
If you are calling me a DU’er BACK OFF, JERK! I posted what the SS said. If you HEARD IT why didn’t you REPORT IT TO THE SS (since they investigated it)?!!!
I’m commenting of the LACK OF READING COMPREHENSION...
My TV has a damn speaker on it...it generates sound...my ears picked it up...and my brain said...damn...he yelled “kill him”...oh..it was ayers she was talking about...
then within hours...we were hearing from the press that Obama threats were being yelled at rallies..
Pure BS...the first incident Palin was clerly talking about ayres when “kill him” was yelled...
a WEEK later...the “kill him” directed at Obama thing popped up..this was the second incident...the only person that heard it was a reporter...
SHEESH.
Heard by only one lefty reporter trying to create news.
That's what passes for journalism today.
OMFG...there was MORE than one incident...

In Fla., Palin Goes for the Rough Stuff as Audience Boos Obama

By Dana Milbank
CLEARWATER, Fla. — “Okay, so Florida, you know that you’re going to have to hang onto your hats,” Sarah Palin told a rally of a few thousand here this morning, “because from now until Election Day it may get kind of rough.”
You betcha. And the person dishing out the roughest stuff at the moment is Sarah Palin.
“I was reading my copy of the New York Times the other day,” she said.
“Booooo!” replied the crowd.
“I knew you guys would react that way, okay,” she continued. “So I was reading the New York Times and I was really interested to read about Barack’s friends from Chicago.”
It was time to revive the allegation, made over the weekend, that Obama “pals around” with terrorists, in this case Bill Ayers, late of the Weather Underground. Many independent observers say Palin’s allegations are a stretch; Obama served on a Chicago charitable board with Ayers, now an education professor, and has condemned his past activities.
“Now it turns out, one of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers,” Palin said.
“Boooo!” said the crowd.
“And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, ‘launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,’” she continued.
“Boooo!” the crowd repeated.
“Kill him!” proposed one man in the audience.
Palin went on to say that “Obama held one of the first meetings of his political career in Bill Ayers’s living room, and they’ve worked together on various projects in Chicago.” Here, Palin began to connect the dots. “These are the same guys who think that patriotism is paying higher taxes — remember that’s what Joe Biden had said. “And” — she paused and sighed — “I am just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America the way you and I see America, as the greatest force for good in the world. I’m afraid this is someone who sees America as ‘imperfect enough’ to work with a former domestic terrorist who had targeted his own country.”
“Boooo!” said the audience.

Secret Service looking into Obama threat at rally
By EILEEN SULLIVAN Oct 15, 2008
WASHINGTON (AP) The Secret Service is looking into a second allegation that a participant at a Republican political rally shouted “kill him,” referring to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
The Scranton Times-Tribune reported that someone in the crowd shouted “kill him” after the mention of Obama’s name during a rally Tuesday for GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin in Scranton, Pa.
Last week, The Washington Post reported a similar incident during a Palin rally in Clearwater, Fla. The Secret Service investigated that allegation and found no indication that “kill him” was ever said, or if it was said, that the remark was directed at Obama.
Listening to tapes of that rally, the Secret Service heard “tell him” or “tell them,” but agents never heard “kill him,” Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
In both the Clearwater and the Scranton instances, the Service only learned of the alleged threats through media reports.
“We would ask that anyone overhearing threatening language bring it to the attention of the Secret Service or other law enforcement at the event immediately,” Zahren said.
The Secret Service cannot prevent or police poor behavior at public events, Zahren said, but the agency draws the line at threatening language.
“We do not have the luxury of discounting such language as simply bad taste or bad behavior without further investigation,” he said.
So far, the Secret Service has not found anyone else who heard “kill him” Tuesday except for the Times-Tribune reporter.
Shouts of “traitor,” “terrorist,” “treason,” “liar,” and even “off with his head” have rung from the crowd at Republican rallies.
The anti-Obama taunts and jeers are noticeably louder when McCain appears with Palin, a big draw for GOP conservatives. She accused Obama last week of “palling around with terrorists” because of his past, loose association with a 1960s radical.
I’m proud to be on FR due to the fatc that people here are intelligent and THINK and comprehend...they dig for facts before scoffing...
Fact..this is MORE than one incident...
fact..Kill him was heard at the florida rally and was directed at AYRES..
Fact...the second incident was checked out by the SS and found to have no merit.
And your ears are better than the Secret Service equipment and listening ability who listened to the entire rally over and over again and said it didn't happen? Okay, if you say so.
So let me get this straight:
You are saying something happened.
An investigation conducted by the Secret Service that included the accounts of agents who were there and interviews with hundreds of witnesses found that it definitely did not happen.
And you're shocked that I might think you heard it wrong.
Ohhhhhhhkay...
READ the post above yours...
for the umpteenth time..there was MORE than one incident...
CHECK YOUR FACTS BEFORE YOU ASSERT KNOWLEDGE OF ALL THE FACTS.

I’M SAYING I HEARD IT PERFECTLY CLEAR AT THE RALLY IN FLORIDA...AND THE COMMENT WAS DIRECTED AT AYRES...
THE RALLY IN PA IS WHERE THE SS INVESTIGATED..
TWO DIFFERENT RALLIES
CHECK YOUR FACTS BEFORE YOU SCOFF.
BS
This election, some of the very best and the very worst coverage has been from England, sometimes even from the same paper. They have something in their media that we lost a few years back: Variety.

I believe the comment, to which you are referring, is attributed to a private intelligence company (not a federal agency) in, you guessed it, Austin, Texas headed by someone named George Friedman. The article is worded in such a way as to make readers think the quote is coming from a government intelligence official. I did a search on FR for comments on this globally centered intelligence company and some FReepers, who once regularly read their reports, made recent comments that it has become a bit sloppy in it’s reporting and seems to be taking a left turn.
No Silverback, nobody here is shocked anymore when you take the whacko view; we're very used to it.
THANKS.
here’s the problem....if you going to argue that “kill him “ was never yelled at a Palin rally....you are wrong...it was...but it wasnt directed at Obama...it was directed at AYRES
People are falling into a press trap...
it cant be denied that kill him wasnt yelled at the florida rally...it’s on tape..
but what CAN be clarified...is that the comment was directed at ayres...which it clearly WAS.
And that the second incident in PA never happened.
