SUNKEN ships loosen bitter lips. The failed McCain campaign, for all its talk of honor, duty and courage, is now teeming with unscrupulous gossipmongers.
The finks turned to Newsweek and Fox News to spread petty rumors about GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's intellect and character. The magazine peddled anecdotes from sources horrified that Palin greeted top advisers at her hotel room - gasp! - "wearing nothing but a towel" and "wet hair."
Fox News reporter Carl Cameron reported that his unnamed McCain sources told him Palin lacked "a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate" because, they claimed, she didn't know which countries were parties to the North American Free Trade Agreement and "didn't understand that Africa was a continent."
Let's assume that the McCain rumormongers are telling the truth. Who would it damn more: Palin, or McCain and his vetters, who greenlighted her for the nomination?

“In a creepy scratchy voice” My friends hehe I woulda won if it werent that real conservative hehe.
This whole made-up, BS, rumor-fest was an Alinsky-esque DIVIDE & CONQUER tactic.
And, wow, did it work!

Yep, this is a test and only a test. But it sure did ruin any efforts to bring conservatives together after the election.
It's embarrassing.
Whoever leaked it to Cameron lacked a degree of grammar necessary to be a credible source.
I will never believe Palin didn't know Africa is a continent, because anyone who's ever looked at a map knows.
In fact I almost think John McCain himself is this "source" dumping on Palin, considering he is cut from the WashDC-insider cloth who thinks himself a demi-God.
I'm still laughing at the McCain stunt in which he "suspended" his campaign, thinking the Democrat Congress was just gonna welcome him into DC as some conquering hero.
He pointed out that right after Sarah Palin was chosen as VP candidate, an army of investigators was sent to Alaska to find anything that could be used against her. If the gossip was true, surely it would have been uncovered long before the election.
McCain wouldn’t ‘dishonor’ himself by confronting Obama with his close, long standing relationship with Rev. Wright., but he’ll stab in the back the one person he brought in a moments notice to the forefront that kept his campaign not only afloat but was the only hope and bright spot. Jealous much?
Sarah is a possible rival and a plausible scapegoat - she will be addressed as such.
Let's remember who McPain really is.
I only voted for McPain's ticket because of her and the devil incarnate BHO.
I couldn't believe it when he did that, it was SO embarrassing.
He should have played it cool, continued with the campaign, adamantly opposed the bail out which would have distinguished and separated him from President Bush...and he might have won.
Instead THAT move was the beginning of the end. He made himself look like such a fool!
Steve Schmidt (McCain’s campaign strategist) has been trying to shift the focus from the campaign staff (for this hatchet job on Palin) trying to say that it is people outside the campaign who are manufacturing vicious rumors. Schmidt is a bald-faced liar doing a CYA job.
Read this article:(http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2008-11-07/mccain-campaign-autopsy/p/) where Schmidt admits an utter lack of control over McCain staffers:
(excerpt) However, with even just a few days’ distance, he saw no problem in confirming what, from the outside, seemed like an obvious frustration: Constant leaks, and not just about Sarah Palin. There were, he [Schmidt] said, more than eight or nine people who would talk to reporters. We would read about [it] pretty quickly in Politico or one of the other blogs, with exact details and recounting of the discussions that campaign leaders were having. And its very difficult to run a political campaign at any level where that environment exists. And it was the first time in my career that I have ever worked in that environment.
Schmidt knows that McCain staffers are responsible for distributing these outright lies to the media. Whether it’s to shift the blame from their role in leading McCain to defeat or because they are threatened by a conservative Palin candidacy in 2012, is anyone’s guess. Quite frankly, I think it’s both.
Note to “centrist” Steve Schmidt: Kiss your future in the GOP buh-bye...and good riddance.
If these “jerks” as Gov Palin has aptly termed them, used campaign cell phones during the campaign, the bills should show who talked to whom in the press, and when. It should be very easy to figure out.

Did he know who these 8 or 9 people were? How hard could it have been to fire them - starting with that woman who is friends with katie couric!
None other than
Team Romney with its hate, vile betrayal
and typical
backstabbing behavior
(Democrats pretending to be conservatives).
I’m seeing just as much hate, vile betrayal and typical backstabbing behavior right here on Free Republic.
Cameron was just wrong...he fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
