Another sign, possibly of the economy and possibly due to the selection of our newest president: Gun sales are at the highest they've been in a while.
Outdoor stores and gun owners agree this run on firearms is because of fear. It could be fear that petty crimes are on the rise, or it's fear of what they say President-Elect Barack Obama could do to gun control.
"I expect a big turnout - we're getting a lot of calls," said Ken Daugherty, who was busy Friday setting up display tables at the Deschutes County Expo Center in Redmond. A large number of vendors are slated for his Oregon Trail Gun show this weekend.
Daugherty says lately, dealers have been selling semi-automatic firearms kind like hotcakes, and he believes it's linked to the election.
"Obama's got 'em scared stiff," he said. "He's the biggest gun-grabbing President in U.S. history. There's a long list of anti-gun measures that he has supported in the past."
But Bend's Sportsman's Warehouse Manager Dave Ferguson isn't so sure that all the hype over the election is warranted.
"You always have the fear factor when there's the uncertainty of a new president," Ferguson said Friday. "A lot of people scare themselves because of that, but you know, even if something were to happen, it would take 6-8 months before anything was introduced."
Ferguson says the increased sales are partly due to the holiday season getting closer and partly because of the economy.
"We've had quite a few older people on fixed incomes buying guns," Ferguson said. "Lot of guys aren't working, so we see a little older trend of people buying guns."
The question of whether or not the prices for guns are higher to meet demand depends on who you ask.
The price of ammunition also has gone up in the past few years, but officials with Nosler Bullets in Bend tell NewsChannel 21 it's because the cost of metal has increased.
President-elect Barack Obama has said he plans on keeping Americans' Second Amendment rights as they are.
If you'd like to check out the Oregon Trial Gun show, it runs this weekend, starting at 9 a.m. Admission is $8.00.
“President-elect Barack Obama has said he plans on keeping Americans’ Second Amendment rights as they are. “
Really? Someone should check out change.gov.
He wants them all, people.
BULLSHIITE.
The anti-gun demonRATS have loads of anti-gun bills waiting in the wings - ready to go on DAY ONE. President-elect Barack Obama has said he plans on keeping Americans' Second Amendment rights as they are.
More BULLSHIITE.
Molon Labe.
Nightline just opened with a story on the rise in gun sales, with lots of interviews of people who are concerned about Obama, pointing to his record and not his words on the subject.
I turned to DH and said, “Do you think they would have run this story BEFORE the election?”
Gun show at the Fair Grounds in Boise , Idaho this weekend too .
Guns and ammo. the #1 survival tool in a bad economy and uncertain times.
Um, Obama doesn't get to decide what the Second Amendment says. We can all read it for ourselves.
Oh, the liberals still want our guns. Have no doubt of that! But they learned they have to be more surreptitious. The new, covert liberal war against guns involves prohibitive taxes on ammunition, tedious and/or expensive licensing processes, bans on certain types of "assault" weapons, lawsuits against manufacturers, etc. Liberal support for the Second Amendment means you can still have a gun if you're willing to pay an exorbitant price for an underpowered weapon and undergo the necessary gun safety and licensing requirements.
This isn't quite what he said. I believe he's on record supporting a new AWB, closure of the gunshow loophole and implementation of a host of reasonable restrictions, all of which he believes can be done while not running afoul of the 2A.
And Nashville. I visit regularly.
Bill Goodman’s.... I won’t be there this week but I did pick up a new GL 23 at Specialty Arms in Lavergne. Boy were they getting busy.
Man, that's awfully white of him. It's also a bunch of crap.
The new expanded Assault Weapon Ban is on the way. I live in CA, and I know of what I speak. I am forbidden to buy certain firearms, outside of the CA Assault Weapons Ban List, because the Politicians have willed it.
Your Second Amendment Rights will be eroded slowly but surely. When Obama gets his picks on the Supreme Court, the old “Stare Decisis” Argument won't apply to the D.C. Gun Ban Case. You can bet on it Amigos.
Both? I bought a new DPMS Panther bull 24” and a Romanian AK47 just last week. They are both awesome. Change.gov already said that they plan on bringing back the AWB. At least Obama should be a one termer then. Idiots.
in .308? Savage makes a scout rifle in 308. Its shoots real nice too. Light weight and a forward mounted scope for easy target acquisition. My shot groups with hornady tap are 1.45 to 1.25 at 100 yards out of the box. Not too shabby. they are aroud 600 dollars without a scope.
...looks like a few people are trying to scare the Democrats into banning some firearms, too.
I think I read the background check in Colorado normally takes about 5 minutes. It was taking about 20-30 minutes on the gun purchases I made a few weeks ago. I tried to buy a .22 rifle at Walmart the day after the election, and they said the wait was 2.5 hours. I phoned the next day to see how long it was taking, and the clerk said he had a background check still going at 110 minutes. Maybe I’ll have them start the check and go catch a movie or something.
Check out the Kel-Tec RFB in .308. Uses FN FAL magazines.
He's on the record as saying that he believes in "restricting" rights....all except abortion that is.
