Always said you need the moderates to win. McCain tried to run to the right and cozy up to the people he has always been least comfortable with. SoCons.

Turned the middle off big time.

joesbucks: “McCain tried to run to the right and cozy up to the people he has always been least comfortable with.”

You’ll have to back that up with some examples!

McCain hardly ran to the right. The bailout? Buying up mortgages so deadbeats can stay in their homes? Promising to push for amnesty once the border is secure (or if Congress sends him the bill without a secure border)? What’s so conservative about that?

You are so wrong. McCain did not run to the right. He could not articulate a clear conservative vision because he doesn't believe in one and staffed up with fellow Rockefeller, country-club, RINOs who hate the base. They consider the base uncouth and ignorant (i.e., not much different than Obama in SF). The treatment of Palin shows it.

Obama ran to the right of McCain, promising tax cuts, promising to protect the 2nd amendment, ignoring abortion, claiming magic solutions to health care problems, and generally lying his bleep off. He had the biggest funding advantage since Nixon v McGovern and a press more biased than any in the history of the Republic. Obama's party's opposition was headed by the least popular president since Hoover, in part because Bush is one of the least articulate presidents since Silent Cal (with the possible exception of his father - apparently it's in the DNA). Plus, the same president oversaw the biggest growth in government since Roosevelt. A Democrat created financial crisis was successfully pinned on the Republicans who tried to prevent it and for whatever reason were unable to point that out.

I could go on and on. If Nixon won by 20 points, Obama should have won by 25 or more. He was spotted 20 and still didn't cover the spread. Obama got 52%.

A competent, cogent, articulate conservative with a loyal, professional staff would have annihilated Obama. Even McCain, if he had an Atwater or Rove would have won.

This is not a defeat of conservatives. It's another failure of the RINOs. The coming wave of socialism is a direct result of RINO policies and ineptness.

NO MORE RINOS! EVER! THEY POISON THE PARTY AND COUNTRY.

Nice try.

If he were running to the right he would have thrown red meat about the following:

1) Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick, Barney Frank, Rohm Emmanuel and their ties to Fannie and Freddie;

2) Tying Obama to Pelosi/Reid;

3) "No child left Alive" in Illinois;

4) Obama's plans to cut the military and start a civilian force as well funded as the military:

5) William Ayers;

6) Obama's missing years at Columbia;

7) Reverend "God D#mn America" Wright;

8) Obama's VAST inexperience to lead the ticket OR the country;

9) Obama's ties to Rezko;

10) Obama's attendance at Muslim schools in his youth and his quote about the beauty of the Muslim declaration of faith;

11) his gaffe to Stephanopouos about "my Muslim faith");

12) The unspeakable trashing of Sarah Palin and her family;

13) Obama's plans for drastic cuts in nuclear weapons;

14) His overt socialism;

15) Tying Obama to the subprime mess and bailout (3rd most $$ from lobbyists)

16) The Thug tactics used during the Dem caucuses.

17) The Birth Certificate

...none of which featured prominently from McCain at all.

Nice try, though.

McCain ran as the dream candidate of Neocon RINO social liberals.

That's who he is.

That's why he lost.
