Campbell Brown Inadvertently Stumbles Upon a Point (Ref: Sarah Palin Bashing)
Townhall ^ | November 07, 2008 | Matt Lewis

Posted on 11/07/2008 3:20:51 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Last night, CNN's Campbell Brown had this to say about the attacks on Sarah Palin:

"I find it so stunning that the very people who introduced us to Sarah Palin, who told us she would make a great Vice President, have now turned on her with a vengeance..."

Yes, that does sound "stunning." So stunning, in fact, that it is unbelievable.

... How do I know the attacks on Palin are a calculated preemptive strike from supporters of a potential 2012 Palin foe -- not from a McCain loyalist? Aside from my personal knowledge that some of this stuff (not necessarily the Newsweek leaks, but other mockery) is coming from supporters of a potential competitor -- it also makes perfect sense.

Even if the attacks on Palin were true (they are not), no McCain loyalist would ever leak this stuff -- because an attack on Palin is also an indictment on McCain's judgment.

The attacks are coming from disgruntled McCain staffers, to be sure, but these folks have other loyalties ...

Well, that runs contrary to everything I’ve observed about him. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you’re mistaken, lying or whatever, I just have observed the opposite. Do you have anything written such as a transcript of what you’re talking about, or even if it’s some other event?

It’s not all that important to me, so don’t knock yourself out, but if you have something, I’d appreciate seeing it.

Thanks.

People should remember who McCain’s staffers were pushing before the Palin pick - at least reportedly/the popular media rumor to try pushing the campaign into a mistake. It was Lieberman. Did we really have any rumors that these guys were pushing for Romney too back then to compete with that?

Hate to burst your bubble but Romney was at the meeting and suggested that McCain suspend his campaign and head back to DC. He wasn’t the only one but he was completely in favor of it. He didn’t keep his promises either about where he was going to campaign.

Romney will NEVER get the support of supporters of the other campaigns. A lot of us know what happened and who leaked misinformation on other campaigns. Ask anyone that was involved in the inner workings of the campaigns. None of us would give Romney the time of day or ANY Bush consultants in the future.

Fred and Rudy were all over for McCain/Palin. When Fred wasn’t in FL, Rudy was. The last weekend Rudy was there with Cindy McCain campaigning. Both of those men worked tirelessly for McCain/Palin. Fred’s wife was on TV defending Palin. I was impressed with the Thompson’s and how much they helped. Anyone saying they didn’t doesn’t have a clue.

The two men that gave the redmeat speeches at the Convention for McCain were the only former candidates from the primary that worked for the election of McCain/Palin all the time. They would go anywhere they were needed. The same cannot be said of any other primary candidate. Some promised and never delivered.

You are 100% correct. This would also be over, with no damage done, if people would quite reviving this gossip and quit elevating it to the status of an actual issue. Whoever did it is a coward, and the reporter nothing but a gossip, so end of story. People need to quit trying to refresh stale coffee.

If people however well-intentioned keep bringing it up, it will become a viral "urban legend," fodder that while untrue, will be used by comedians and pundits galore and in each retelling become more entrenched in the public's consciousness as happened to Dan Quayle with the "potatoe" gaffe.

Palin doesn't need a man to come to her defense, she doesn't need chivalry. Whatever they do they should NOT try to play defender on this nonissue because it implies she is too weak or incompetent to defend herself. Being treated even by her supporters like she's their little girl, the weaker sex, etc will hold her back. If people feel she has hurt feelings and really needs their input then they can send her a confidential letter of support. She doesn't need it but if it will make them feel better and shut up it would be a good thing.

You can bet someone will build on this gossip with additional stories in the years ahead- mockery IS the left's playbook since they always lose on actual ISSUES. If each time a new tidbit of gossip is spewed in the press a bunch of well-wishers and do-gooders jump on it in outrage, making each story linger in the press for days and weeks, I guarantee it will do more damage to her and to all conservatives than if the gossip was left alone to get stale and cold. Old news makes for poor ratings.

It might be some plants from the Obama camp. Doint the Devil’s work for Obama

That's the best explanation I've heard yet for the miserable performance of the McCain campaign.

“Hate to burst your bubble but Romney was at the meeting and suggested that McCain suspend his campaign and head back to DC”

*******

What a load of nonsense.
McCain is a child so Romney tells him to stop campaigning, and he humbly obeys what Romney tells him, and totally suspends all his campaigning including TV spots even though its against his interests?
Gimme a break!
You know John McCain. He is the proudest , most arrogant I ever saw.
You think he is going to mildly take orders from Romney, when he McCain had won the nomination and already beaten Romney?
Stop spreading baseless propaganda

"Haven’t you noticed how, when a campaign hits financial straits, these people jump ship? It has little to do with personal loyalty to a candidate and everything to do with making a living."

The least McCain could do is set the record straight by naming names and giving some straight talk. These bottom feeders may turn on him if he does not bite first. He has an opportunity next Tuesday on the Jay Leno show--if he has the steel for it.

I don’t have any written document or anything, but you might find a Youtube of it. I just vividly remember him sobbing as he was announcing Kerry’s loss.

Are you sure he wasn’t sobbing in relief that Bush won? That would be more like the Carl Cameron I’ve observed.

Yesterday (for all it’s worth) I replied to the John and Cindy McCain “Thank You” email, requesting Sen. McCain to ‘name names and make them famous.’ This bashing of Gov. Palin by campaign insiders is the worst I have ever seen in many years of observing the political scene.

Allowing this to stand tarnishes not only Gov. Palin’s reputation but also Sen. McCain’s and the GOP’s... it is not good for anyone except the Dems and their allies.

After a month of smears, all that proved in the end to be lies, why would I bite a new smear from any source at this point?

The Media and Government is afraid of Palin, because she is an American. And they, apparently are not.

As I remember even Hume observed his distress and advised him to take some moments off camera “to compose himself”. Since then I have watched closely ever time he is on and it has seemed to me that he does pretty well to conceal his own opinion but you do see an occasional smile that gives him away. Maybe somebody who knows where to find it can see what his political donations have been.

Campbell Brown actively bashed Palin. now we are supposed to believe her when she is trying to trash both Romney and Palin and get conservatives to squabble?

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/05/brown.bounds/ Campbell Brown bashing Palin

Campbell Brown, On September 1, 2008, Brown conducted a controversial interview with Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for Republican Presidential candidate John McCain concerning vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Brown questioned Palin's executive experience and asked for examples of decisions Palin had made as commander-in-chief of the Alaska National Guard. Bounds did not name an example, but stated that Palin had more executive experience than Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama. Brown accused Bounds of sidestepping with his answers and repeated some of the same questions. Brown asserted that Senator McCain had made a point of wanting a vice president with a lot of experience, including foreign policy experience, and that his selection of Palin seemed to abandon that principle. She asked Bounds to explain the decision on that basis. Bounds contended that Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin together had more executive experience than Senator Obama and Senator Joe Biden combined. The McCain campaign later accused Brown of anti-Republican/McCain bias, alleging that she had "gone over the line." In response, the campaign canceled McCain's scheduled interview with Larry King, but then rescheduled it. [11]
