Whatever you may have thought about John McCain's running mate -- about whether she was qualified, prepared or experienced enough for the job -- try to put all of that aside for just a moment, because Sarah Palin is who she is.
She did not become measurably more intelligent or measurably less intelligent during this campaign. Remember, she was only part of the campaign for a matter of nine weeks.
Sarah Palin is who she is, which is why I find it so stunning that the very people who introduced us to her, who told us she would make a great vice president, have now turned on her with a vengeance.
(Excerpt) Read more at cnn.com ...
The only people who waged a worse campaign was the French in 1940.
If Palin were a rat McCain would be on every station defending her, but alas, Sarah is a true conservative.
Hopefully, this will be remembered the next time McCain runs for reelection. The only reason I voted McCain was because of Sarah. She Rocks.
Exactly. Gov Palin was the ONLY reason I was enthusiastic about voting.
He should have immediately gone on tv and told the American public who was at fault for the crisis instead of agreeing with Obama as to the cause. I'll bet millions of voters still don't know the facts about the role of the FMs in the crash and Dem complicity. The crash and the failure of McCain to explain the reasons for it more than anything else to my mind cost him the election.
What you say is 100% accurate. Instead of explaining how the economic mess is directly traceable to Democrats, McCain blew it bigtime.
Wonder who gets blamed for that idiocy?
The Gibson interview was fine. There was only 1 bad interview. Dont hold it against her.
They are badmouthing Palin more than they did Obama, Ayers, Wright, Rezko, etc.
Way to go McCain, really good stuff you're made of.
Really top notch.
Can't get more pathetic than this.
What a total waste of time and money!
I did notice that her unfavoribles went up about 5 points after the SNL appearance.
I kind of wonder if it played right into peoples misconceptions about her.
It was her version of the “celebrity ad” McCain aired against Obama.
Yup. I call'em as I see'em.
"Yeah, it really built up her positives with those who weren't already in love with her, didn't it? (Your evidence, being...?"
Simply put, even the media anti-Palin barage moderated a bit afterward. Though only temporarily. Add to that the huge crowds she generated everywhere she went, in case after case pulling in people who had never gone to a candidate rally in their lives (evidence from all over the blog-net)(.
"And that's something she had to work on, right? To the rest of the country, she was this dour intellectual, and she needed to be lightened up."
Given the incessant media mis-representation, yes, and yes. And it was PRECISELY the kind of "take it straight to them, but in a humorous fashion" tactic that Reagan was so good at. Remember "there you go again"???
"If this is the level our people are going to keep playing, we're already screwed for 2012."
If we play by YOUR playbook, we certainly are. If you don't see the need for the candidates to come across as real people, then you're an idiot.
"If you really believe the media lovefest for Clinton is IN ANY WAY comparable to the hate they poured on Palin, and that these two appearances were the exact same in their impact, you're hopeless."
Which statement proves you've missed my whole point. Clinton's appearance on Letterman showed his humanity and sense of humor to the independent voters, just as Sarah's did. The "hopeless" party here is you.
Not if it's truthful.
You sound like a conciliatory, reach-across-the-aisle type Republican. Maybe you noticed how well that fared in this election?
And the fact that she went out with a Saudi official says a lot about her. Call it a "personal attack" if you want, but it's the truth. What we hated that the Dems did was the use of untruthful "personal attacks." See the difference?
To those top McCain advisers who leaked the little story about seeing Sarah Palin in a towel; to those who called her and her family "Wasilla hillbillies" while using her to stoke class warfare with red meat speeches and an anti-elitist message; to those who claim she didn't know Africa was a continent; to those McCain aides who say she is the reason they lost this election: Can I please remind you of one thing? You picked her.You are the ones who supposedly vetted her, and then told the American people she was qualified for the job. You are the ones who, after meeting her a couple of times, told us she was ready to be just one heartbeat away from the presidency.
If even half of what you say now is true, then boy, did you try to sell the American people a bill of goods. If Sarah Palin is the reason some voters chose Barack Obama, that is no one's fault but your own.
Bitch-slap!
True. If Palin decides that she's had enough of this crap (which would not surprise me in the least), there are others.
If the election had gone the other way, I genuninely can't imagine Obama throwing Biden under the bus like this. Whatever else you can say about him, he's not a spineless weasel.
This circular firing squad is just pathetic.
“As for Mccain himself. He stood up for Palin during the campaign.”
Yes; but only in a half-assed way. He needs to be a hero NOW and get in the faces of the jackals who are smearing her.
Palin is an inspiration for all of us.
I wish she would have been unleashed during the campaign. Now, if she could get more dynamic conservative Republicans elected. I hope she takes over the Gubernatorial group so that she can recruit both governors and state legislators. She can “train” people up in Alaska, turning their legislature full conservative Republican.
There you go again..... now you’ve made personal assumptions about me that are wayyyy off.
I’m not a reach across the aisle person and I can’t wait for Obama’s honeymoon period to be over and all his words be proven to be nothing but the hot air we knew they were. I’m totally disgusted with this election and despite her inexperience I’d rather have Sarah - because I think her instincts and beliefs are old fashioned American - the America that was good and successful.
I have to concede the point about truthful v untruthful but still....I didn’t like your comment about Campbell - it had nothing to do with any valid issue.
Sure it does. Do I really need to remind you that Saudi Arabia is one of the most repressive nations on the planet. She was going out with a spokesman for this horrific government and you don't think that's germane? You don't get it, obviously.
Her relationship also colored her reporting:
The ditzy Brown, of course, took the insult. That might be because, in Campbell Brown's case, there, indeed, might not be such a thing as the female brain. After all, she spent a great deal of time "dating" (euphemism) Saudi Arabia spokesman and BS artist Adel Al-Jubeir.And that is brainless. But not as brainless as NBC allowing her to "report" on Saudi then-Crown Prince Abdullah's visit to the Bush ranch in Waco, Texas. In a glaring journalistic conflict of interest, she was "dating" the Saudi's Jubeir at the time, and strangely, didn't mention the ban on women at the Waco airport's tarmac and air traffic control tower. More proof that pillow talk is the most effective form of speech.
Unfortunately, you're blind as a bat.
Simply put, even the media anti-Palin barage moderated a bit afterward. Though only temporarily.
LOL! So your "evidence" is that the barrage "moderated"...well, it moderated "a bit." Well, it moderated, a bit, "only temporarily". In other words, it didn't.
You should read your posts before you send.
Add to that the huge crowds she generated everywhere she went, in case after case pulling in people who had never gone to a candidate rally in their lives (evidence from all over the blog-net)(.
Who challenged that she was bringing in huge audiences of the faithful? Not me--I think she did a great job there. But she wasn't going after those people in her appearances. She was going after people who never came to her side, and merely became another part of the celeb machine, aimed at people who never have and never will believe in her VALUES.
DW:"And that's something she had to work on, right? To the rest of the country, she was this dour intellectual, and she needed to be lightened up."
You:"Given the incessant media mis-representation, yes, and yes."
You are either completely deluded or completely blind. You're telling me Sarah Palin--who was known by the masses for winking at the camera in a debate, for being a former beauty queen, for being an attractive woman who made her way up from TV journalism...was considered a dour intellectual who needed to lighten up?
Simply put, what the heck are you talking about?
You really have to stop arguing because you can't admit you're wrong, and start opening your eyes.
And it was PRECISELY the kind of "take it straight to them, but in a humorous fashion" tactic that Reagan was so good at. Remember "there you go again"???
Yes. What this has to do with appearing on SNL, I don't know. Reagan would never have stooped to that level. He was able to inject humor where it belonged, in a serious political context. Not by being a monkey on their stupid TV show, which would have put him on the level of TV actor again, and not statesman--which is where he was, and where she needed to be.
If we play by YOUR playbook, we certainly are. If you don't see the need for the candidates to come across as real people, then you're an idiot.
Sarah Palin had no trouble coming across as a real person, you idiot. That was her greatest asset. Her problem was coming across as a serious politician--which she is, but the media spun her as a lightweight.
You probably think appearing on entertainment shows means one is an intellectual. In that case, you need to read more. Because with you as their helper, the media will have no trouble continuing to treat her as a lightweight.
Which statement proves you've missed my whole point. Clinton's appearance on Letterman showed his humanity and sense of humor to the independent voters, just as Sarah's did. The "hopeless" party here is you.
Let's try this again--read slowly, you obviously can't grasp anything very complicated: Palin DID NOT need to "show her humanity or sense of humor" to ANYONE. Even the blind, such as you, could see that from her first appearance. She needed to show off her intellectual, statesman-like side, which appearing on entertainment shows does not do.
I'm not surprised you can't grasp this. Thanks for being part of the simple-minded audience that wants to be "entertained" and would be lost in the intellectual discussion Palin could easily handle, and which would have proven she's capable of being VP. She was capable of the office, but the simple minded among us demanded she be "fun". Great--now she's considered a lightweight, and that's what hurt her image.
The MSM thank you!
