"The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start."

Well I imagine the idea here is to try to teach youth the importance of community involvement. We do this in Ontario (40 hours to graduate) and its worked out pretty well so far.
Yeah, make those EVIL rich people work for the community! I mean, it’s not like those CEOs and business owners worked hard to get where they are or anything...
The guy feeds off of power from people believing they are to receive more wealth and rights.... if he forces or demands time and money from the idiot-teriat then he loses his lazy sloven base.
If anything he will demand money from the middle class to create a new government program that supports other programs at each individual school that needs a paid director and board of supervisors, paid yearly, and a class of paid organizers, to help rally a base of volunteers for photo opportunities in the national media... 180 million dollar a year propaganda program.

Good imagination, but this ain’t Canada, my friend. We don’t take kindly to Socialism of any kind and would prefer to teach our own children “the importance of community involvement”. You have to take off the government glasses to see the problem here.
And then there’s the rest of what Obama says to consider. This is about indoctrination, not community awareness. He learned community organizing from Sal Alinsky and training children from Bill Ayers...

Looks like the continued ignoring of the danger of the public school system by even conservatives has created what it inevitably would: Liberal Fascism. Looks like we are here people, and I don't see any turning back at this point. It's time to get real about the situation we are now in. America is now in the next few years a socialist state. Conservative solutions must be localized, bold, and drastic or they will fail miserably.

Whose job is it to teach children about whether or not community service is good and worthwhile or a complete waste of time? That would be MY job as the kid's PARENT. Anyone else who tries to MAKE my child WORK for FREE can piss up a rope.
Yeah, it works out great as long as parents stand for it.
