Misc Threads on FR | 11/06/2008 | Self

There have been "anonymous sources" within the McCain campaign who have been for weeks "badmouthing" Sarah Palin. Please find below the compiled list based off FreeRepublic posting of some of those most responsible for the ghastly behavior.

Name Description
Arlen Spector Proof?
Carl Cameron the mouthpiece of these people
Charles Fried a Harvard professor who served in the Reagan administration. Fried said chief among the reasons "is the choice of Sarah Palin at a time of deep national crisis."
Chris DePino a Republican consultant based in New Haven, Conn.
Colin Powell "Palin not qualified"
Condeleeza Rice In an interview with CNN’s Zain Verjee this weekend, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice offered “a less-than-hearty endorsement” of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s foreign policy experience.
David Brooks
David Frum (National Review)
George Will
Joel Goldstein a law professor at St. Louis University
Kathleen Parker Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker thinks Palin should quit.
Kevin Madden
Lindsey Graham
Nicole Wallace Nicolle Wallace -- a former Bush White House official and McCain campaign aide who helped orchestrate the roll out of GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin -- has defended herself in a lengthy interview with The Daily Beast, saying she is the victim of "an organized campaign" to discredit her.
Paul Mirengoff (Powerline Blog)
Peggy Noonan
Steve Schmidt Proof?
Tom Ridge Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge: "I think the dynamics would have been different in Pennsylvania" if he and not Sarah Palin had been the vice presidential nominee. "I think we'd be foolish not to admit it publicly."

The closet socialists are like the regular socialists.

They see real conservatives as peasants and un-useful idiots.

Palin has ZERO foreign policy experience

You think THAT'S why McCain lost? How could a certifiable idiot like Biden and actual foreign policy ZERObama win then? Apparently the voters didn't care about that. Try find another scapegoat. It's not Palin's fault the media was savaging her.

All those people can say what they want.
The one I blame is Carl Cameron, for spouting on about his “anonymous sources” at length as a lead story.
Most grossly unprofessional thing I have ever seen on fox news.

The above list includes several Republicans, all of whom comprise the main reason for the decline of conservatism. They’re not all in the same ball park, and many of whom are no more conservative as Bill Clinton, especially Colin Powell.

I saw Carl Cameron’s report and he almost made it sound believable, but not quite.

The Republican Party desperately needs to shake off the liberal leeches and begin anew.

.I love Sarah, but I can understand Condi having some reservations about foreign policy

And just what Foreign policy experience did Bush have as governor of Texas

First experience he got was Looking into Putin's Eyes at His Soul

This is exactly why the election was lost AND why the party is in the shape it’s in.

We FINALLY get a GREAT Republican like Sarah Palin, but the ‘country club’ Repubs dis her.

They should all be taken out to pasture, put into a BIG hole and buried.

Palin has ZERO foreign policy experience, and it was solely out of politeness and party loyalty that Rice didn’t point that out.

And what was Reagan's and Bush's foreign policy experience while governors

Bush and even Chaney were caught completely off guard by the muslim threat to this country--even after the World Trade Tower bombing under Clinton --the USS Cole--Kabul Towers etc etc

It was hardly even mentioned in the campaign in 2000 if at all

I tell you why you’re likely wrong. Carl Cameron’s source is advisors/aides/whatever to McCain, at least that’s what he claims. We’re going off that statement to id the perps. If you think its obama campaign, then you’re also saying Cameron is lying.

With unidentified sources, you have to go with the information given. obama and the msm don’t need Cameron to hammer away at Palin....they can dial up any tv/entertainment show and they’ll bash her.

Add Congressman Mark Kirk of Illinois. It’s one thing for Condi Rice to have concerns; but it was completely unnecessary for him to pile on. Of course, he’s a major RINO.

The more you stir something bad, the more it stinks.

We have to realize that WE can't fight these people on their own turf; no common folk will ever hear our side of the argument, only the side of the "important people" with the bully pulpit.

Now - listen to the old guy here - we need to start "Sarah Palin Fan Clubs" all over the country. I mean really organize it, with a president, vice-president, secretary and everything.

These clubs main purpose, other than just adoring Sarah, will be to keep her name in the spotlight. Regular press releases...maybe even a Sarah Palin Magazine, featuring her life. Why not, Oprah's got a magazine all about her one-track mind...so why not a magazine called "SARAH".

Taking it all the way, there could be conventions, websites and tours of Wasilla, Alaska.

We could have her up to "messiah" level by the time the next election rolls around.

This would show the "grass roots" are behind her, and like obama's fans who think he can do no wrong, everytime a new rumor comes out about her, promote her that much more.

Think about it.

I definately want to keep her name in the open and have a solid grass roots campaign behind her, but I think a “Sarah Palin Fan Club” gets little “Obama” like. We fought the whole rock star approach Obama made for himself. Sarah is way to humble for that.

I don’t want to idolize our public servants, I want to help them.

And I don’t think “fan clubs” help.

This is nuts. If you want to engage in mindless worship of a political figure, just go join the Obama worshippers. They’ve already got their show up and running.

I'm not trying to "hollywood" her, and I'm being somewhat facetious with calling it a "fan club", but we need to:

1) Keep her name circulating as much as possible, and;
2) Let the media know that the people are still buzzing about her.

After she's now gone back to Alaska, and when this current rash of Palin-bashing subsides, she will fade back into the day to day of her Governorship. Do we want the final thing known about her between now and 2012 to be that she is blamed on McLame's loss? I don't think so.

This plan, based on my years in advertising and news, is to keep her name out there in a well supported, favorable light. If we have groups in every state, we are just her adoring "fans".

The old saying, "It takes a lot of 'atta-boys' to overcome one 'aw $hi+'" applies here.

Who is going to do it, if not the grass roots? The MSM? FOX news? NO, none of the above.

When the "people", the grass roots, are behind something it scares the politicians. Look at the "shamnasty" bill, the people got fired up and it got canned.

It's just an idea for simple, broken-record creation of name recognition and reputation building.

So, what's your idea?

I agree with all your ideas...it’s just the fan club thing sounded ridiculous.

First things first, we need to let her rest and be with her family.

Reagan was old enough to have experienced a lot more history than Palin, and his several years of military service during WWII, although entirely in the US due to his poor eyesight, included extensive work in production of army training films, which certainly wouldn’t have been focusing on domestic activities during wartime. In Bush’s case, he had a front row seat during his father’s Presidency, and extraordinary access to his father’s experience and hindsight re the first Iraq war. He also certainly had plenty of experience in social situations with foreign dignitaries.

It would certainly be a lot more productive to focus on strong potential candidates for 2012. Candidates who might actually be able to oust Obama, who is likely to be a lot more dangerous in a second term, when he’s not in running for re-election mode, than in his first which is already shaping up to be a pretty generic Democrat administration.
