This is my concern also. I’ll be 59 1/2 on the 14th of this
month. I don’t know what to do with my 401K remenants.
I’d like to put it into something that would stay mine.
I sure don’t want to give it away after working 25 years

A down market is good for 401k that you are putting in on a regular basis, dollar cost average also goes down, so the selling price in the future should net high profit, if Democrats don’t ruin the free market first, (see tag line)

Like the current Obama decline, which began back in September, the market will discount the bill. It’s the way the market works. Could be in stocks already. What looks to not be in it are the layoffs that are coming. Normally layoffs are not a big deal because lots of new companies take up the slack that grab headlines but right now I’m not seeing much of those activities.
Rodguy, that is not correct. This country hasn't been center right since Bill Clinton took office. The nation voted -by a substantial majority- far left.
I had some time to lurk this afternoon and am amazed at some of the comments.
There will be no conservatives taking back the GOP. They are left with very little political power to start with, and its obvious from the attacks on Palin that they will blame this on conservatives and GWB. The only way we will take back the GOP is to elect conservatives, and that can't happen for two more years.
Conservatives should start looking at this pragmatically.
The first thing you should do if you are a high profile conservative is make sure that all your legal dealings are in order....taxes paid and things of that nature. Libs are going to come after all conservatives in reach in the next two years.
Go ahead and start a legal defense fund for Rush and Sean. They are going to need it.
One more bit of advice relating to the economy-shed every penny possible of debt in the next four months. Cash will be king in six to eight months.

My big concern is that this divided country does not errupt into a new civil war. This country is divided between conservitives and libs, spliting down via the center or moderates.
I wonder if putting it in a 401K rollover would be safe? People have tons of those out there and it’d be harder for the gov to track them all down, I would think. Some people have annuities in their rollovers (they can’t be bought in 401Ks) - that’s why I’m thinking rollovers might be exempt. Forcing someone to sell an annuity early, taking all the outrageous fees - would really reduce the value of it. I”m sure there will be some legal issues involved with the government forcing this action.

I think the recession is already here. Technically, it may not have been 3 quarters, but realistically, it’s here. Layoffs are happening, unemployment is rising, taxes are about to get higher.
I’m not sure what the answer is, but I’m just trying to look for the best picture for a two year plan. Yea, I’m unrealistically pinning my hopes for a conservative sweep in 2010, but that’s all I’ve got to hang my hat on.
