Thanks. I’ve written creatively for a long time, and expect to do a great deal more of it now that Barry and the Obamanauts are about to hit the stage. BTW, I borrowed the “rough stranger” phrase from William Butler Yeats, one of Ireland’s greatest poets and an inspiration to me in my formative years.
Seeing the headline on Drudge, maybe all the glum faces are from Obama, even though raising more money than anyone in history, hasn’t paid his campaign workers.

Are you talking about bonds? I don’t recall any actual tax hikes on my ballot and not even all the bond passed.
Yesterday my 5-year old asked who won. My wife and I sadly told him Øbama won. He began to cry and said, “Øbama is going to take our money away.” We told him not to worry because God is bigger, stronger, and smarter than Øbama and He will always take care of us. My wife and I had to fight back the tears.
Print this out, mail it to them, and then ask them if they’re ashamed of their votes.

I heard and saw high school age punks walking up and down the street for a bit banging cowbells and shouting some gibberish about obamalamadingdong after the election was called for him.
I thought it was just me...
I woke up in actual physical shock, knowing that the country had just destroyed the next two generations.
I hope the GOP does not fall prey to “working with democrats”. They would only be dolts providing cover.
We need to clean our party out or start a new one, and let the democrats take responsibility for the mess they will create. It isn’t a matter of IF, it is a matter of WHEN people start to smell the truth of their actions. Carteresque.

I wish I could buy into the rainbows and ponies ideals of the socialists. Somehow it just doesn’t sit well with my personality.
Yeah, my 7 year old, having had us explain how tight things are said “Now it will never get better”. I told her not to worry that her dad and I would make sure she was taken care of.
It makes me not want to get them involved again, but that wouldn’t be right either. They have to learn sometimes we lose, and sometimes we have to be tough.

I have had that sense of impending doom for a very long time. Since I was a teen.
I now feel like the time is short and the day is near.
And oddly, that’s calming.

The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.
The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them.
While we do not endorse any particular candidates, we do endorse and join in the anti-Bush/anti-right wing sentiments that are driving so many people to activism.
The fact that the Democratic frontrunners are an African American and a woman speaks volumes on how far the country has come. Hillary Clinton’s campaign has attracted large numbers of supporters, especially women. Other Democratic contenders presented some excellent proposals to reverse the devastation caused by the Bush administration’s policies.
Barack Obama’s campaign has so far generated the most excitement, attracted the most votes, most volunteers and the most money. We think the basic reason for this is that his campaign has the clearest message of unity and progressive change, while having a real possibility for victory in November.
As we see it, however, this battle is bigger than the Democrats and Republicans, even though those parties are the main electoral vehicle for most voters today. Our approach is to focus on issues and movements that are influencing candidates and parties.
We will work with others to defeat the Republican nominee and to end right-wing control of the new Congress.
The activism growing out of this election will help guarantee a progressive mandate no matter who is elected. It is critical to our country’s renewal and future.
We think this election is a great opportunity to bring an early withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. It can mean job creation and relief for those who are losing their homes or unable to pay their bills.
This election can set the stage to advance the interests of working people; of those excluded because of race, gender, sexual orientation and immigration status.
This election can begin to turn the tide: it can help bring universal health care, save the environment and start the restoration of our democratic rights. This election can strengthen democracy for all.
In the long run, we see the need for an independent “people’s party” -- an electoral party that will unite labor and all democratic forces. We also are working for a political system and government whose priority is to watch the backs of working families, not fill the pockets of the corporate fat cats. Our slogan, “people before profits” and our goal of “Bill of Rights socialism” say it all.

my sisterinlaw said something similar to me, that she was kind of sorry that she had conveyed to her kids how bad things were going to be and how hopeless, and her college freshman was beyond depressed at the election results. i said that it was far better for them to have a realistic appreciation of the situation, no matter how hard it is, than to have a false sense of reality. only by knowing what we face can we gird ourselves to deal with and fight it. my 14 yo is the only republican in her small private school class. she took incredible grief on election day from the other kids and didn’t want to go to school yesterday to face more of the same. my husband went in to talk to the administrator and said, i hope that the school will use this as a teachable moment about TOLERANCE, since i know you would not sit still for this were it directed to someone’s race, religion or physical handicap, tolerance towards differing viewpoints should also be taught. they did go into the class and talk about how different people have different opinions and those who were sad about mccain losing should be sad inside and those happy about obams winning should be happy in side. that did the trick and they laid off of her, thankfully. she can stand up for her political viewpoint quite well and the adminstrator acknowledged that the kids are passionate about the win but have no KNOWLEDGE, unlike our daughter, whom they know to be well-informed. that made her feel good to know.

Interesting. I could’ve written the same thing. In a way, this has brought me closer to God and that’s always good.
