Ways to "afford" the pending Obama tax hike.
6 Nov 08 | for-q-clinton

Obama is going to raise your taxes to give it to those that pay little to know taxes. Here's how I started to afford the Obama tax hikes.

Here’s how I’m handling it.

I typically leave the maid a tip at the hotel I stay at...I’m checking out today so instead of a tip...I left a note:

“I wish I could afford to leave you a tip, but I’m saving for the Obama tax hike. However, I’m sure Obama will take good care of you as he plans to tax me to give it to you. Obama is going to collect your tip from me...take part of it...then pay you the rest.”

Also I typically tip 20% and round up if service at restaurants is good. But now I’m going to default to 15% and round down. Also any slip in service is a 2% cut.

Are there other types of jobs that people typically don't make much money so they are going to "win" in an Obama income redistribution scheme? If so, how can we "get our money back" from day to day dealings with them?

We can cut back drastically on our charitable giving since this will be taken over by the government using our money.

That's a good point about tipping better in red areas, and tipping less in blue ones.. We vacation at the shore in true blue People's Republic of NJ. Many of the service workers here come from Eastern Europe and Russia to work for the summer, to earn money, that they take back home with them. Seeing as most of the money these summer workers are earning isn't staying here in the USSA, their tip standard will be 10%. If they don't like it they can stay in their countries and hit Putin up for the money.

I'm surprised at some of the name calling on this thread about “punishing” and being “stingy”. So if a small business owner has to layoff staff to pay for his tax increase, so he can eat; is he being “stingy” and “punishing” the innocent worker who got laid off?? Seeing comments like this on a Conservative site...Now I understand how Chairman 0 got 52% of the vote.

Your example is a good one and falls under this economic theory well. You are adjusting your economic behavior to market conditions.

For economists, rational expectations, doesn’t mean rational in common terminology. Rational means however that consumer/taxpayer/economic agent defines it to be. In other words, whatever is in our own economic interests in very broad strokes. It can be crazy, lack common sense ... but it still would be rational to market participants and how economist would define the term.

Even when the prolelariate punishes hard work by voting in a Marxist??

There are a (very) few corporations that I shun because of their liberal views. I make this decision before I buy or not buy. Once in the restaurant and while ordering, I have decided to make a purchase and by default, to pay a "fair" tip. I make no judgments about whether or not the server voted for "That One". I might be wrong.

If I learn before I order that the server voted for "That One", I can get up and leave if I don't like it. That would be fair.

Giving is more of a blessing to the giver than it is for the receiver. Some will have to, by necessity, to not give as much. Others who do it out of spite will be missing a spiritual opportunity.

“That would be fair.”

Fair in tipping is 15% for good service and 18% for better service. Fair is scrutinizing the service and tipping accordingly. Fine. Instead of tipping generously and without regarding the usually less than stellar service we receive, I basically said I’ll be apply the “fair” judgment instead of my usual “generous” judgment. This will probably result in the fair tip of about 10% because I can’t stand to have my glass go empty, wait 5+ minutes before being greeted, and having to flag down the waitress for something she forgot to bring in the first place. I’ll be applying the “fair” standard. Of course, Obama is not a “fair” offering on their part to the rest of us.

You may be hurting those that are actually trying to help themselves.

That's exactly what redistribution does.

Leaving that note of yours only makes Republicans and conservatives look like stingy, miserly bastards

Who cares? Most people who aren't Republicans already think that about Republicans.

That doesn't mean you have to reinforce their erroneous beliefs.

True. I am not even saying it’s a good idea. But being nice to these creeps won’t change anything.

As I said earlier, if the service is good, leave a tip. If the service is "creepy," then leave nothing.

...I will max out my 401k and IRA contributions.

Isn’t there some chit chat now about the dems planning to roll over the 401K’s and IRA into some government pension plan or fund WHICH WILL NOT BE PASSED TO HEIRS upon your death.

I read about it here:

You are correct - check it out:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/27558644

They are plotting to steal your control over your own retirement and make you a ward of the state, whether you want to be or not. But don't worry, the account is "guaranteed" (to earn 3% a year, couch, cough) and it will be kept in a "Trust Fund". Oh, yeah. Just like Social Security. Because we're from the government and we're here to help you - have a nice day. ;-)

It's your money. Spend it as you see fit. In the past, if you have been giving generous tips to less than excellent service, then you have been enabling mediocre service, and enabling an entitlement mentality in this country.

Welcome to the club of paying people on the bases of merit.

In the financial industry here as well. Didn’t know you could get samples at Sam’s. Now I know where we are eating Friday night!

Okay, but give to the churches and the Salvation Army. Nix to “Green” causes, liberal colleges and universities, and especially the United Way and Komen, both major funders of Planned Parenthood.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. It’s amazing that some on FR can consider the fact that I’m trying to save a buck by no longer over tipping a bad thing. I’m betting they work in a service industry where tipping the norm.

Oh well, I used to live in a country where income redistrubtion was unheard of, but they voted for change.
