U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman, the former Democratic vice presidential candidate who backed Republican John McCain for president, will meet_with_Democratic leaders this week to determine his fate with the party.
By all accounts, it appears to be grim. Unless theres some change in sentiment determined by a new balance in the Senate, the independent Democrat from Connecticut will likely lose his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, according to several reports. That may push him into the Republican caucus.
I cant see how he keeps the chairmanship for that committee, but they will_talk and part of the discussion will focus on Liebermans actions_during the presidential_campaign, a senior Democratic aide told Politico.
Lieberman spent election night in Arizona with McCain, his close friend. He is expected back in Washington on Thursday and said hes seeking to smooth things over.
Now that the election is over, it_is time to put partisan considerations aside, he said_in a statement, and come together as a nation to solve the difficult challenges we face and make our blessed land stronger and safer. I pledge to work with President-elect Obama and his incoming administration in their efforts to reinvigorate our economy and keep our nation secure and free.
But Liebermans statements about the Democrats at the Republican Convention, and just before Election Day, have angered many Democrats. Blogs like the Daily Kos and Moveon.org, angered by his support of the Iraq war, campaigned against him in his last election. He lost the Democratic primary but won his fourth Senate term as an independent.
Even more infuriating_to some was his_appearances with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the woman who may become the new face of the GOP. "She's so strong, she's. . .so capable, she's so competent," he told a GOP rally last month in Clearwater, Fla.

I hope he joins us in every filibuster just to spite them. (I can dream...)
I hope Lieberman joins the Republican Party. I don’t expect that he’ll seek another term in 2012.
I’m in RINO hunt mode right now, but I’ll make an exception for Lieberman. No one else in his party has been willing to put their country first as he has.

Come on over, Joe. Beats the heck out of having Lincoln Chaffee in the party.
I predict he will caucus with the Democrats again.
One of the few veterans (like Murtha and Kerry) that I have absolutely no use for.
Lieberman could create an “Independent” caucus with McCain, Graham and others, which would help stem the radicalism of the other Democrats. Essentially they could do the same to the Democrats as what they did to the Republicans.
send him to iraq
I was just thinking the same thing. Independents can be a drag on the Libs, give those blue dogs somewhere to shelter when that witch Pelosi and dismal Harry start yammering at them!
I seriously doubt he’d ever jump to our ship. He may take a ride with us on occasion, but wouldn’t take up residency, IMO.
I think he’ll stay an Indy, and if he is defeated, he’ll retire.
The rage that will have gripped the nation by 2010 should be enough to dump all the morons out and any Liberal whose dumb enough to run will be beat. Two years of Socialism with loss of freedom and taxes should just about do it. The “change” these morons wanted wasn’t losing their jobs and taxes for everyone. I say, enjoy your Muslim Messiah and his cohorts who made false promises. Utopia won’t be coming their way. Beware of the enemies within.
He is a pansy. To think this douche-bag once wore the uniform makes my stomach turn.
I don’t think so. He really got F*(*) by the DNC when he ran for re-election. I think he’ll stay Independent and caucus with the Pubs. He knows he doesn’t stand a chance of re-election again and I’m sure will be in full pay-back mode every chance he gets.
Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee ????? That’s the very mechinism that these guys will use to set up the secret police (aka: KGB). Of couse Joe has to go. I know .... Im a wierd ‘tin foil hat’ guy. After all, Im that guy down the street that said, back about 1995 or so, “you’re going to see an attack on American soil in the next few years”. Yeah, you can’t trust wierd freaky guys like me .... that’s true. Have a nice day comrade.
Yeah baby!
I didn’t think there were enough moderates and RINOs in the party yet. :D
If Arlen Specter is a Republican in the Senate, there’s room for Joe.
I respect Lieberman soooo much. I may not agree with 90% of the time, but the guy is able to take a beating for what he believes in.
