A lot can change in four years - and we're not just talking about who occupies the Oval Office.
In 2004, when President Bush was re-elected, Sen. Dianne Feinstein was quick to lay some of the blame at Mayor Gavin Newsom's feet. Earlier that year, the mayor had allowed thousands of same-sex couples to marry. When asked whether the weddings hurt the Democrats, Feinstein - herself a former San Francisco mayor and mentor of Newsom's - said this: "I believe it did energize a very conservative vote. It gave them a position to rally around. The whole issue has been too much, too fast, too soon."
Newsom and his supporters have long rejected that contention. But similar accusations surfaced this year after a video of Newsom screaming "whether you like it or not" was used in all those ads pushing Proposition 8, the ban on same-sex marriage.
At a news conference today, Feinstein - who spent some of her own political capital campaigning against Prop. 8 - was asked whether Newsom was once again responsible for pushing an issue too soon. Or rather, a reporter tried to ask her that question. The senator cut the report off mid-sentence.
"I'm not going to get into that," she said. "Thank you very much, it's a nice try."
Lesson learned.

Feinswine must be licking her chops in anticipation of the gun grabbing that’s to come. ....her primary concern.
Nice try? Hahahahaha. She was happy to spill it before, in 04. Now she's all uppity like she's not going to be 'tricked' again, when in truth she couldn't wait to turn on and blame anyone else last time, Newsom was a handy target. I guess having voters in her state decisively vote against gay marriage again is causing her to rethink her ramblings.
The gays will really love this YouTube.....some heads may explode - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bwoeNYZP_Q
Not that I disagree with the result, but I would suspect some gay folks are experiencing an epiphany of sorts, today.
They most likely ran out and voted for Bami with tearful rainbow colored enthusiasm, only to find out that thier liberal bretheren, vast majorities of blacks and hispanics, are not quite “that” liberal.
Without Blacks and Hispanics voting for O and then crossinbg the column and voting for the ban, it wouldn’t have passed. They must be stunned.
Wonder how liberal they feel now that California has openly told them that they are not equal.
Point taken.
Hilarious!
Frankenstein has spoken.
Exactly the case this time around as crystalized by Newsom's arrogance. He's so fantastically tone politically tone deaf on this issue it's almost as if he's a double-agent.
Don’t be silly. California told them flatly they are not equal.
California told them flatly they are not equal. How so? They have the same marriage rights bigamists do?
