We have to put people on the ballot who are capable of explaining and defending our principles.

In a 2000 debate when Alan Keyes was asked how he thought "W" would do if elected, Keyes said he's a nice fellow but he doesn't have the skills to communicate conservative priciples.

And Mr. Keyes _did_ have them, I presume?

In that case, how did he manage to do so well running directly as the Republican candidate vis-a-vis Obama in Obama’s Senate race?
