Radio host Rush Limbaugh, the loudest conservative voice in American politics , today blasted John McCain's presidential campaign as weak and said Barack Obama's election as president is an opportunity to purge the Republican Party of candidates who abandon conservative principles.
"McCain's whole campaign was a concession speech," said Limbaugh in his post-election analysis. "We've now demonstrated to everyone how to lose."
Limbaugh dismissed any notion that victories by Democrats in the White House and Congress meant a repudiation of right-leaning principles.
Limbaugh explained conservatism was not on the ballot.
"We haven't been on the ballot since 1994," he said, noting that if Republicans wanted to win elections, they should not put so-called "moderates" on the ballot.
"The conservative movement does not need to be rebuilt," he said. "We had some people abandon the conservative movement, and they need to be abandoned."
The broadcaster called last night's results "an opportunity for cleansing ... like we haven't seen in a long time."

“LOL, I’m sure the MSM would have properly respected Gov Romney’s religious beliefs and not have made an issue of them in their coverage.”
I’m also sure the very fair press wouldn’t have mentioned the word “chickenhawk,” either.
I think Rasmussen proved that he was dead on with this one, so I’ll repeat one of his findings here. He found that Americans considered Obama very liberal, and very inexperienced, but they just DID NOT CARE. They wanted change.
I hope they like what they get. I know I won’t.
We can not stop the huge cultural shift that has been washing over us for 50 years, at best we can slow it here and there.
This evil tide will run its course.
The point?
We (of the "conservative wing of the GOP") were "reacting" to having been forced to support YOUR ball-less RINO Republican candidate who campaigned with all the passion and grit of a flaccid Zucchini.
We got jobbed again, and quite frankly, Dubya Bush did all he could to lose on both 2000 and 2004 - and would have IF NOT for the muscle and passion of the "conservative wing."
The best that could be said about "our candidate" was that he was by far the lesser of two evils." PERIOD. That's NOT saying much about the RINO John McCain.
I don’t think a majority want socialism. 0bama masqueraded as a centrist and patriot and the public bought it because the MSM covered up all his past.
NEOCONS, BIG TENTERS, AND COUNTRY CLUBBERS NEED TO TAKE A BACK SEAT...
STEP DOWN.
WE NEED A SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE THAT IS ***ALSO*** A FISCAL CONSERVATIVE
No more McCains, no more Romneys, no more Squirrel eaters...
That's my thoughts exactly. Also, while the media was busy selecting McCain for nomination, conservatives were being manipulated by Huckabee and purists who trashed Romney, the most likely to succeed.
You keep believing that... LOL!
Consider that Hillary probably would have won the nomination if the media had vetted Obama properly. And McCain-Palin might have won without the financial meltdown on Wall Street.
Still, the GOP will have a tough time running against Democratic candidates posing as Santa Claus offering prizes and cash payouts to middle and working-class voters. They need to address the economy and taxes in ways that will appeal to average Americans. Joe the Plumber, not just CEOs worried about capital gains.
The Mormon and The Snake Handler
In a 2000 debate when Alan Keyes was asked how he thought "W" would do if elected, Keyes said he's a nice fellow but he doesn't have the skills to communicate conservative priciples.
I agree. McCain’s concession speech was so well crafted that it must have been drafted long ago. And it contained language about how proud he was just to have been selected to run. Very reminiscent of how Dole was selected as a sacrificial lamb, more or less to reward him for longevity (having reached Viagra age).
This is backed up by a ton of studies that show that pay is not the most important factor for job satisfaction.
Tell Rush Your Operation Chaos has succeeded beyond all expectation!
Honestly, I think this nation has chosen to walk the path of darkness.
It was a spiritual battle for sometime, and both side has its victories and defeats. But we’ve been down this path of defeat for sometime now, yesterday was just Appomattox.
I really don’t see us as a nation turn around. Individuals, however, are a separate matter.
The GOP did not stand at the polling places and force its members to vote for McCain. Its ludicrious to insist they did.
Sometimes I think "conservative" is this mythical standard that no candidate can ever achieve, therefore, we will not unite behind one when he does run. Just not Reagan enough... but how many of us would have condemn Reagan for his amnesty, his runaway spending, and his pulling out of Lebanon if FR was up and running in the 1980s.
Reagan was a giant... but the myth of Reagan is overwhelming the mere mortals who dare try to run as conservatives.
I agree that we should punish liberal Republicans. Reps. Kirk and Biggert should have conservative primary opponents, in 2010.
Huckabee is a true conservative, and he continued campaigning until March 5, which was about five weeks after the South Carolina primary.
