This is what happens when we eat our own.. (Turning backs on GOP winners I.E. Bush)

It is evident that we the GOP turned our backs on President Bush. Keep in mind he successfully defied all odds and won two elections. We turned our backs against the core values and conservatism to reach out to libs and independents... this is what we get for throwing our own under the bus. Just some food for thought.

We lost our way... SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES want a president who wants bans on GAY MARRIAGE and ABORTIONS, as much as I am PRO-LIFE, those 2 issues are way down the list.

This thread reminds me of what is often posted at the other site.

Kind of sad. Half self pity, half self blame, half finger pointing and all statistically overly guilty by exactly 50%.

Lick our wounds, re-load the conservative ideals, seek out leadership, support the good guys and encourage another conservative revolution as the minority party.

Quit feeling sorry for ourselves and start writing letters. We will need to be more active than ever in the next 4 years. We may as well go ahead and get started.

1. Fairness Doctrine
2. Union voting
3. Expiration of Bush Tax Cuts
4. Military Spending Cuts
5. Judicial appointments
6. 2nd Amendment bills coming up
7. Voter Fraud and ID law bills coming up

We can't just push the sinking ship into deeper water. Some of us need to start bailing water while others plug the holes. We don't need a bunch of captains opining over what went wrong and telling others how to fix it. Get involved. Write letters. Make phone calls.

For the good of our children, STAND UP! (I had to throw that in there.)

Not by illegally searching our citizens on our flights and giving the TSA outside the constitution powers with no oversight allowed! You can’t even sue them for violating your constitutional rights! Gee why do you think that was put in there?!

"Sorry, but aside from tax cuts, the courts and defense..."

Even those are lies that too many here tried to convince themselves of to try to defend the brand(R) or rationalize their support of a liberal.

Giving me $300 with the right hand while using the left to charge $3000 in programs on my credit is not giving me a "tax cut".

We had to fight him on judges or we would have wound up with Meirs and possibly the likes of Gonzales.

Rather than actually defending us by declaring a real war he engaged in a sort of weaponized meals-on-wheels, hearts and minds, nation building circus (and dropped the ball on that) while leaving terrorists and enemy insurgents walk freely into our country.

Those claiming The Clown Prince was conservative are only further damaging the brand to create a greater obstacle to party rebirth.

Sorry, but I disagree with you completely.

Bush turned his back on me.

Bush turned his back on conservatism and paved the way for the liberal landslide.

Bush turned away from his conservative base. He abandoned them long before they gave up on him.

The conservative base came out and voted in this election. We lost. We lost big time. Bush helped to give us Barak Obama.

Bush who pushed amnesty for illegals in 2002, again in 2006, and twice in 2007.

Amnesty caused us to lose New Mexico. The majority of American's seem to have thrown that issue under the bus. That was not an issue at all in this election other than the fact that Latinos broke for Obama.

I've been sounding the alarms... We decided to jump on the hate Hispanics bandwagon ... and in reality we let the usual uneducated blacks off the hook, and they broke for their race big time. Instead of pointing out the usual problems within the black community, we switched to bash hispanics mode (which is how the majority of the public took that) The white race is losing it's majority status more and more every year, and this race definitely reflects that.

Independents broke for Obama in just enough of an amount that it creamed McCain. The same independents some perfect conservatives complain about and say we don't need.

This should be a lessen, it is hard to win over democrats. More emphasis needs to be placed on continuing to secure the base, and securing EVERY SINGLE independent vote. Blue collar dem's decided a socialist was their man, no point in trying to court them.

It seems Republicans and Conservatives are out of touch ... the stupid American Public decided they wanted even more handouts and even bigger government.

No hissy fit here.

I never liked that John McCain was the GOP pick, but I voted for Sarah.

He was elected , wasn’t he? What’s the gripe?

So why did he turn his back on conservatism?

The Kennedy Cabinet seat. Dept of ED. nuff said
No Child Left Behind .. more money to make mush of kids minds
Prescription Drugs .. everybody loves cheap drugs, don’t they?
Bail-out-orama — financial institutions shanghaied
Praising the election of a Marxist

The Office deserves respect, the occupant who doesn’t respect his base or his nation’s direction.. well, that is another thing.

While he has been steadfast in his WoT effort, what does it gain us if we ‘win’ that war and still lose the nation?

The democrats support their own no matter what. If Charles Manson were the President, the dems would support him, defend him and support him some more just for shits and giggles. I know we take the higher moral and principled ground, but my friends it is time to abandon that approach because WAR has been declared.

Actually, war on this nation was declared long ago by the leftists who now have control over the democrat party and the White House and soon the judiciary. In war tough decisions must be made. So, Bush was not what we hoped for, neither was the Republican majority in congress. But they were our soldiers in this war for better or worse.

Nonetheless, we punished the Republicans in 2006 telling ourselves that we could get the majority back with “real conservatives.” We abandoned (actually the Republican abandonded) Bush which helped cost him his popularity (a chicken or the egg thing to be sure). We told ourselves it was allright because Bush was not a “real conservative.”

As it turns out, we failed to realize that we are at war. We failed to realize that the other side could care who they support or who they advance so long as that person helps them get power. If we hope to preserve this nation, we must adopt that approach no matter how distasteful. Tough decisions must be made in war.

Now, I am not saying that we select moderate candidates. Hell no. We should never have selected McModerate in the first place. I am simply stating that once a Republican is in office or is on the ballot or if he is accused of a crime we should support him if at all practicle. We must not rush to have our own resign when indicted democrats sit in government. We must support our guys in the GENERAL election. If we want to effect change within our party, the place to do it is the primaries not by “teaching a lesson” in a general election.

The price of not changing our ways? Ladies and Gentlemen may I present President Elect of the United States of America Barak Hussein Obama.

I am not going to say Bush destroyed the party. I cannot. WHat was our alternative? Gore? Kerry? I do not think so.

Anyone that wants to blame Bush for destroying the party needs to put each and every member of Congress ahead of him. The GOP gonads have been hanging in the dem cloak room for years. My hunch is they will be there for the next 2 cycles. Right now the GOP members who were not kicked out are hanging by a thread. Staying in office is the name of the game.

McCain lost this election becuase he backed himself into a kinder, gentler election corner through CFR. We said at the time that CFR has opened the door for Soros and his ilk to buy elections.

The media had his number. They played him like a fiddle. Everytime he started an offensive all they had to do was say he was ‘negative.’ I believe that is why he did not go after Dodd and Franks. MSM would have had a field day with that.

Now, can someone point me to the free money line? Obama said we’re gonna be rich!

McCain voted against those tax cuts. Because he has an admitted inept undertanding of economics, he does not know tax rates are dynamic; not linear. He voted against them because there were no commensurate spending cuts. While that is a noble idea, the two are mutually exclusive in the immediate. So, he could not credibly tout those tax cuts because he did not support them. Similarly, his total inability to understand economics made it impossible for him to make the inexorable and historical link between tax cuts and increased federal revenues. The simple reality is he was the wrong candidate. Both he and Hilary should have handily beat Obama but they never accounted for American Idol and the evolving need of Americans for an indulgent parent.

If you don't think this was a referendum of Bush...you are very naive. Hannity just read a poll that outlined why people didn't vote for Republicans. Only 9% said it was because they were too conservative. almost 60% said it was because they (GOP) had went to DC and lost their way and didn't hold to their principles.

The fish rots from the head down. The lack of direction...leadership...and FIGHT that had been seen in our party can be laid 1) Not solely...but largely at the feet of Bush and 2) Those who have advocated a "Big Tent" philosophy...thus compromising our principles. Bush did that as well.

We don't win by moving towards the middle. We win when we loudly and convincingly advocate conservative principles...thus moving people from the middle to the right.

No offense, but I didn’t turn my back on President Bush...however, President Bush did turn HIS back on conservatives and conservative values....

I wholeheartedly agree.

“I’ll see you at the bill signing.”

He is an inept leader, who was good on the war on terror.

If he saw the mortgage crisis looming, he did NOT use the bully pulpit to make it know. He may have tried something, but then a bright and shinny object came in his field of view and he moved on...

Bush was a bad president, and I voted for him twice. He’s not completely to blame, but his failure to communicate and his embrace of big government in issues that should be left to the states, along with his spending cost us bad.

Bush had a mandate

The mistake is that politicians think they have a mandate. Mandates do not exist. Those who claim they have it always go too far and lose.
