Political Battle Under Way Within GOP, Say Conservative Leaders

CNSNews.com) – Facing the most liberal president and Congress in a generation, conservative stalwarts do not blame the GOP’s disastrous election performance solely on Republican nominee John McCain or on President George W. Bush. The ultimate culprit, some say, has been big government Republicanism.

Long-time conservative activist Richard Viguerie thinks the Republican Party’s problem this year is not unlike its problem in previous election cycles.

“Moderate and liberal have not done very well,” Viguerie, the chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, told CNSNews.com. “Both Bushes had problems, and Bush the son nearly destroyed the Republican Party. People are looking for a clear conservative choice.”

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, said this is not the first time Republicans have had a bad election cycle.

“We will get the same advice from the establishment press, which will advise the party to move left,” he said. But when that was tried, it did not work, Norquist told CNSNews.com.

He said Republicans win by running on President Ronald Reagan’s ideas and lose when they move left. He cited President George H. W. Bush’s failed reelection campaign in 1992 after running successfully as a Reagan tax-cutter in 1988, as well as Bob Dole in 1996 who had previously opposed the Reagan tax cuts, and now McCain, who has supported legislation on campaign finance reform and global warming.

Jeb is the only Bush worth a vote, in my opinion.

I agree, but the country is simply "Bush'ed". Jeb won't have a chance at the WH and he is smart enough to know it. Thanks to Bush 41 and Bush 43, we will never have a chance to vote for the BEST of the Bush family for president, Jeb!!

"Seems the polls this time weren’t as far off the mark as folks kept claiming they were..."

if you believed the “polls”

we would have had a President Kerry and a President Gore...

“Just sayin’...”

even a broken clock is right twice a day! LOL

But NOW is the time to start finding, supporting and preparing to elect true blue conservatives to local, state and federal offices in 2010 so that we have a better class of conservatives to choose from for higher offices come 2012!

The ultimate culprit, some say, has been big government Republicanism

That's part of it.

We allowed the socialists to take over the schools, the universities, and the media; allowed them to make our movies and grow the government workforce and dependents; allowed communists to run the unions and infiltrate the workorce with 'diversity' training.

It's been a long, strange trip to socialism but it finally arrived. It will take more than the next election. We need a real revolution.

"The RNC/GOP let Sarah be attacked from all sides because they wanted conservatives to know how unwelcome we were. I agree. My $$$ and my energy only goes to fiscal conservatives. We need to stop giving to the RNC, stop rewarding bad behavior because the enemy is scary....the enemy is always going to be scary, but we can no longer compromise our true values to fight off someone only slightly worse."

Yep. The "old boys" didn't want her, she was too "regular folks" for them. Too for-real for them. They old-boy's blue-blood Rockefeller RINOs have made pretty clear people like Governor Palin and us are not welcome. But everytime a Democrat runs, they suddenly want our votes, but not our voices. Maybe geunine conservatives like Governor Palin, Governor Jindal, Rep. Eric Cantor, etc., can get together and clean out the GOP from all the "old-boy" Rockefeller Dem-lite RIN0s.

I'd contribute whatever it takes to achieve that! RINOS have got to go. This should be the GOP's new logo:

we will now see all the stuff the MSM held back about Obama dribbled out over the next six months, and the public will not like it one bit.

The mess the Rats are walking into is pretty daunting. A huge deficit. A recession. A war that won't go away just because they want it to. An energy crisis created by not exploiting available resources and technology. A Rat base that believes govt. can create prosperity. A medicare melt down and looming social security meltdown.

We need to fight a holding action for now. Party discipline is critical in the senate.

When the perpetual adolescents are overwhelmed it will be time for the adults. We need to make sure our candidate is truly a conservative, is photogenic and can shoot down the liberals with humor.

The GOP brand has relegated itself to the deep discount bargain shelf at Big Lots. It’s barely worth carrying to the dumpster out back. Good riddance. Time to build a new product from scratch.

“This Country just went hard “left” for a reason.”

I heard that same line when LBJ, Jimmy Carter & Bill Clinton were elected. LOL

And we overcame those clowns, we’ll overcome this one too!

Who is the CONSERVATIVE gunning for RNC leader?

Rove said it best yesterday. Republicans can not abandon social issues and hope to win because all of america cares about social issues.

He's right but they have to sort through the disaster of Bush-Cheney. Politically it was a disaster. Obama and socialism for four years now while conservatives fight it out.

this destroying of McCain/Palin

One bright spot -- for McCain: He did get more EVs than Dole in '96.

LOL. As of this morning, McCain has 161 with MO, IN, and SC still undecided. Dole was at 159.

Obama is being whisper ripped for dividing wall streed and main streed on CNBC.

obama has declared war on the ecconomy and the honymoon is over.

now the MSNBC reporter is trying to say “mandate”.

Now we see how the credit card fraud investigation goes.

Karl Rove may be “an architect” but it's Karl Rove who has gotten us exactly where we are. If I never hear another word from Mr. Rove, I couldn't be happier. His “new tone”; “compassionate conservatism” neutered the conservative movement.

As for social issues...this is essentially the second time in 20 years the Democrat candidate has won election utilizing the “economy”.

I’m glad I live in Texas. Wonder if we can secede?

The problem with Texas is the illegals spilling over the border in uncountable numbers. I'm beginning to no longer recognize my state. Texas won't be PROUD TEXAS much longer if something isn't done to stop this insanity.
