The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace ~ What must our enemies be thinking? (former Kerry lawyer)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 11-5-08 | Jeffrey Scott Shapiro

Posted on 11/05/2008 12:02:40 AM PST by STARWISE

Earlier this year, 12,000 people in San Francisco signed a petition in support of a proposition on a local ballot to rename an Oceanside sewage plant after George W. Bush.

The proposition is only one example of the classless disrespect many Americans have shown the president.

According to recent Gallup polls, the president's average approval rating is below 30% -- down from his 90% approval in the wake of 9/11. Mr. Bush has endured relentless attacks from the left while facing abandonment from the right.

This is the price Mr. Bush is paying for trying to work with both Democrats and Republicans. During his 2004 victory speech, the president reached out to voters who supported his opponent, John Kerry, and said, "Today, I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust."

Those bipartisan efforts have been met with crushing resistance from both political parties.

The media created the persona that people see in President Bush. The media generated the low approval ratings.

We now know that the media can manipulate anything they want.

We must make that a focus in our fight. We've got to figure out a way our voices can be heard en masse, because the opposition's intent is to silence us completely.

God Bless President Bush always! We owe him a debt of gratitude, not the disrespect and disloyalty that has been thrown at him. History will judge him well and this nation will rue this day that they elected an arrogant fraud.

President Bush is a decent man. Its true he can't articulate a conservative message well but I don't understand the hatred so many people have for him. I don't agree with some of what's he done - but I have never hated him. I have a respect for the man... if not the office he holds.

Where he was wayward, we might have prayed all the more for him.

I don't believe prayer would have prevented the massive expansion of the federal government that Bush undertook, which is one reason Obama will be the next president. But Bush did a great and noble thing in overthrowing Saddam and his attempt to bring democracy to a Mideast tyranny is one of the finest acts of US foreign policy ever. And despite the false starts and wasted months before the arrival of Petraus, Bush has won his Iraq war with a historically low number of US casualties.

True, but seriously, why is this being published the day after Obama’s win? This should have been published last month. What a load of crap.

Bush has been the leader of the GOP, and has led it to this.

I call that weak leadership. His inability or unwillingness to bring about better results got us to this point.

He is a good man, but a weak and ineffective president and leader.

No namecalling or nastiness from me; just a fairminded analysis of where we are, and why we got here.

He has pretty much been coasting since 2004, much like his father did. With a similar ending.

To dman late for that, Bush failed in an epic manner, and it seems to me that the idea here is to offer some sort of support for the Obamao is quite simply untennable.

GWB offered his hand and got smacked for his efforts, Obamao deserves the same treatment.

History will be kinder to him. And yes Obama is indecent, cold and arrogant in bearing and character. I will never respect someone who endorses infanticide and disdains traditional values.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. He never fought for our ideals and spent WAY too much. He is going to go down as the President who never vetoed. I like him as a man, but I agree with your points.

Agreed. A good man but a flawed leader. Its just a shame the American people couldn't see his goodness and chose to be repelled by his flaws.

How brutally, grievously true. I weep at the despicable, vitriolic abuse and attacks this good man has suffered all these years.

Even tonight the left was taunting him outside the White House as though he himself had lost the race. The MSM systematically destroyed his reputation as a president, making sure that he would be a liability rather than an asset for anyone who ran on the GOP ticket in 08. Their treatment of him has been one of the biggest tragedies I have ever seen, and yet I have wanted nothing more than for GW to use the bully pulpit inherent in his position to defend himself and his decisions. WHY didn't anyone come out with a strong voice and tie the financial disasters of Fannie and Freddie to the DEMS? That whole scheme should have backfired royally on the Dems, but instead most Americans sucked up the lies from the media and believed that Republicans were responsible for the mess. Time and again there were opportunities and certainly reasons for calling a press conference and just reaming people out for their lies and distortions. I believe you have to teach people how to respect you. GW allowed the MSM to define him and their definition was all wrong.

"HIS choosing and HIS fault."

Correct.

And the right trash BDSer weaklings fed and energized the left while at the same time undermining the right in sacrifice to their self indulgence. BDSers were the useful idiots of the Left. They played their part in creating an atmosphere in which this Muslim took over the executive branch of our government. THEIR choosing and THEIR fault.

Oh, how sweet to discuss this now. A Kerry lawyer nonetheless! I suppose we are supposed to be ‘respectful’ to Obama and the Demonrats, right? HELL WITH ALL OF THEM. I am an eye for an eye person and at least you can say with the opposition and statements made about Obama and the Demonrats-they are true! These are not good people, period. We are about to find out and get even more verification no matter how ‘paranoid’ some that don’t want to wake up to the travesty that was this election like to call the pessimism of what has happened with this election. Bush has been treated maliciously, unjustifiably. And he will be missed within just ONE YR!! At least with Bush you got someone who could be wrong but was essentially a GOOD MAN. With these people they are deliberately liars who seek to destroy dissent and have more respect for our national enemies that want to destroy us. The media can go to hell along with them. This disaster is all on them.

My take exactly. He says protecting the unborn is "above my pay grade." I could never find common ground with a man like him, even if he might be capable in all other respects.
